A Canonet in Paris

Thanks to my company shutting down completely over the holidays, I finally found some time to develop a roll of Tmax 100 that I shot with my Canonet last October in Paris. Here are a few of my favorites. Hope you like them.

Those are just stunning The shot of the one with the reflection of the Eifel Tower is my favorite. Great work.

Wait a second - this is one roll, as in singular, uno, un, etc? Impressive shots from one trip, let alone one roll! Excellent work, lots to be proud of. And if it is one roll, it took you that long to develop it?

They are all excellent but the guy smoking, reflection of the Eiffel tower and that wonderful angle you got shooting down the Eiffel Tower are all A+'s in my book.

Oh, and I love the one with the telescope too, possibly my favorite.

Thanks, Steve! Yep, it's one roll. It wasn't the only camera I was using, though. I alternated between the Canonet and my D70s, so I only pulled out the Canonet when I saw something good. I realized the light meter reading was off, so I developed a few test rolls to figure out what film speed I was using. That's what took me so long.

Love the feel of these. All your posted images were very nice but the odd angle on the tower and the refection shot were superb. Nice to see quality b&w with that vintage feel being posted. Thanks for sharing this experience with us.

Those are some really nice pictures, I really like the reflection of the effeil tower as well. I pretty much love all of the pictures. I have a friend who is currently a exchange student in france, she goes for pancakes every morning, she said they sell them at every street corner! Anyways that is beyond the point, great pics once again

Shrackman - I have a lot more respect for that Canonet after this roll. It's not the sharpest of cameras, but it's pretty good, and for 25 bucks, it's awesome!

Brian - Rangefinders do rock! Forcing your self to slow down is always a good thing. Sorry, no Holga stuff from Paris, but I do have a roll of Tri-X from Big Bend that I haven't gotten around to scanning yet.

OT - I'm glad you like the vintage feel. It was quite easy to get into that kind of mindset in a place like Paris. That's the most photographically rich place I've ever been.

Pyxel - I hope your friend is enjoying Paris. The more I think about it, the more I want to go back. The crepes are very tasty. More than once I picked one up on the way back to the hotel after dining at some restaurant with tiny portions.

I had the opportunity over the weekend to take the Bessa out for the first time!
It was good! I haven't gotten the film back yet, but you know I will post some photographs when I get the chance!

I checked out the latter at a camera store that had one for sale, but didn't like the way it felt in my hands. The other side of the coin, however, is that it takes great pictures.

I looked at the G2 as well, but I felt it was too much like my F100, just in another form.
It has autofocus and a 2-3 fps motordrive and all that, but I wanted to really slow things down so I went with the Bessa R2A. I would have LOVED to have been able to buy a Leica M6 TTL, but I wouldn't have been able to afford even the body for the money I got my Bessa and three lenes for.
Did you see the post I made a couple of weeks ago when I first got it?

Excellent - beautiful - winners!

There are three in that first set that I really, really love. The man smoking at the cafe, the reflection of the Eiffel Tower, and the telescope. Think those are wonderful photos. The black and white works great and there's a tonal quality to them that gives them a somewhat timeless feeling.

I'm very happy I took the time to look at these.

On Rangefinders forum I've seen very few M6 images that I could say "blew me away." It seems to me other rangefinders, including the Canonet QL17, are capable of taking just as great pictures. Of course, much of that depends on the photographer too and the kind of film one uses for the conditions. I think you will do just fine with the Bessa, and I agree you can get a lot more for a lot less and still take great photos. Thanks for looking. I'm glad you like them. I'm really tempted to go rent some darkroom space to make prints of these, but I have two more rolls to develop first. Then I'll decide.

Something strange happened with my gallery. I went to edit the details on the photos and I noticed there were duplicates of some of them. I clicked around a little, just looking at the others, and when I went back, there was a "No Thumbnail" message in place of many of the photos. The full size photos weren't showing either. Around that same time (this morning), I got emails saying there was some kind of upload error, but I did the upload several days ago. So, I deleted the ones that said, "No Thumbnail."

I'll put them back in my gallery tonight when I get home. I also have a few more to add.

I do hang out there but I haven't been there much since October. That's because I really haven't developed any film since then. But I do have a roll of slide film that needs to be finished so I'm sure I'll post those once I get done with the roll.

By the way, those guys can get very technical on that forum. You'll learn a lot there about your new bessa I'm sure.

I've done a little lurking there, but I haven't joined. I mostly just used it to do research about battery and maintenance issues with my Canonet. Seems like a cool place, but I can't keep up with too many forums at once, so I focus on this site. The people are just friendlier here.
