    Bought a new lens today

Well, after 7 years my inexpensive but trusty Sigma wide angle (18-50mm) 3.5-5.6 DC lens needs to be replaced. It's just not up to par for the group photo that I will have to take at church camp next month, but I'm not complaining because it has been a fun and excellent lens all these years. I only paid $100 brand new for it and I've taken some great photos with it. I wish I could replace it with another one but of course this lens has been discontinued.

So after searching around I opted for a Tokina AF 19-35mm lens. It cost about $60 more than my Sigma lens and so it fits within my budget. I haven't received it yet so I don't have any pics to show you but I'm hoping it will at least do as well as the Sigma lens performed. I've always wanted a Canon 17-40 but the price has always been a deterrent to me. If I were a professional photographer it would be a different story, as I could justify the expense. Anyhow, well see how well this lens does once it comes in. I'll share some pics when I can.

Tokina makes fine lenses Ray. Plus, with you behind it, I am sure the shots will rock!

Other than that, how have you been?

    Congratulations!

When I had a Canon dslr, I owned a Tokina wide angle lens and it became my favorite lens. It was razor sharp - great color and just a fine lens.

I look forward to seeing some shots!

Hey Brian, thanks! I've been good, and you? I see you're still in so. Cal...I've moved on to the better part of the state, hehe. No traffic jams up here but then again the ocean is a tad farther away, like three hours.

Anyhoo, I'll get to some pics in a minute.

Thanks Liz. To be honest, I'm not as impressed with this particular lens as I was with my Sigma basically because this lens is far more prone to flare. Of course, I wasn't expecting anything special either for the price I paid. I suppose it will get the job done, however.

Below are just a few photos from this lens, some of which I tried to use the lens flare to my advantage. The first shot was of the annular eclipse, which itself was a direct result of the lens flare. The rest were shot wide open at 19mm (I do miss that extra mm from my Sigma), and at f/8 or smaller aperture except the last photo, which was shot at f/3/5 and an ISO of 800.

Ray, good to see you posting, Tokina (hoya glass) is generally pretty good stuff. I've got a couple of "T" lenses as well.
