Back from Maine

We spent a few days in Portland and a few days in Bar Harbor. Lots to do/eat at both places. My biggest supprise was the difference in temperature(mid 90's in Maryland and mid 60's in Maine).

I live about 300 miles south of Bar Harbor, In Massachusetts and we have had the same hot weather MD. has been experiencing.

You won me over with the lighthouse photos!! My favorite subject.

There were 2 things I wanted to see while in Maine.
1) Lots of lighthouses
2) Moose
You can probably tell by my pictures that I did not see any Moose.
Maybe next time.

I love the scenic shots - great job at composition. What equipment did you use? The pictures are sharp with great color.

I've been to Maine - a few times to Kennebunkport and once to St. Francis which is waaaay up north - next to Canadian border. I love Maine. It's one of my favorite spots.

Thanks for the nice comments. We had a great time and really liked the 2 towns we visited(Bar Harbor the most).

Nikon 17-35 afs2.8
Nikon 80-200 2.8
Most of my shots were with the D2x 17-35 combo. Only the whale shot was with the 80-200.
Other equipment taken but not used much:
Nikon D100
Nikon 35-70 2.8
And yes my bag was VERY HEAVY!!!!!

Have lots of great FOg pics though - went up to top of Cadillac mountain 4 nights to get some great sunset pics, could not see 3 feet in front of us any night.

But did love Bar Harbor anyway.

Have lots of great FOg pics though - went up to top of Cadillac mountain 4 nights to get some great sunset pics, could not see 3 feet in front of us any night.

But did love Bar Harbor anyway.

Yes we were very lucky with the nice conditions we had.
It started to cloud up the last day we were there and that was when
we took our first and only trip to Cadillac mountain and we too had
lots of fog. I sure wish we had gone up the mountain on one of those
clear days we had.

Where did you stay?
We stayed at the Bluenose Inn--Very Very nice!

I'm taking a week in October to go to Maine to do some hiking and try to catch a few shots of the changing leaves. Any suggestions for good locations?

Most of my shots were with the D2x 17-35 combo. Only the whale shot was with the 80-200.

Some really nice photo here. Thanks for sharing the experience with us. I'm sorry to say I do the same thing you do and carry a very heavy bag on my family outings. It is so heavy that the poor kids feel sorry for me and ask if they can help. On resent trips I have even given in and let them help.

Also stayed at Bluenose - yes it was nice. But their advertising a "short walk to town" really wasn't correct. It may not be that far, but it is on a small road without sidewalks.

Was up there for an Artist's Workshop at the Acadia Arts Center. My S.O. was supposed to teach that week. Unfortunately her class, and pretty much ALL the classes, were cancelled this summer. We're hoping next year is better.

Not sure if I know how to upload photos - but I'll try a few that I haven't PS'd yet.
Will do a few more in next post - and more will be in Gallery.

I stand corrected though - I said I took 100 pics. It was 363 to be exact. Oh well.

The Bar Harbor area seemed to be VERY popular with hikers and bikers. We spotted many hikers while on Cadillac mountain.
Maybe do a Google search on the area for more info.

Man that is one heck of a lobster!!!
We sure did have our fill of lobster while in Maine, all of which was good but.........I still wouldn't trade for my Maryland crabs!!!
