Anyone ever shoot a baby in the hospital?

Boy, if I weren't posting this here, I might be arrested! lol

I was asked if I could to a portrait shoot of premie triplets in the hospital with their family by someone as a surprise for the grandparents and family. No idea how much to charge for this one! Obviously, it won't be the typical portrait setting and I can't exactly play with lighting - sanitary environment so I may only use my camera, that's it.

Pricing ideas anyone? Any good tricks for shooting babies in hospitals?

My daughter was a preemie and they tend to be in the special care nursery---due to "privacy" and confidentiality laws...no pics or videos are generally allowed. Unless you are the mom/or dad...it depends on how strict the nurses are...good luck let us know what happens

i was only able to get three shots of my sweetie and they were all without flkash using available light (window and overhead)...good luck

Your first sentence was what I was thinking... Probably best at the hospital to use the term "photograph"! Like Natalie says, they may have a lot of restrictions, you may want to call them.

You will definitely need the parents' consent and you will not be allowed to use flash (anyway, this would not be a good idea if they are in the incubator). It is also probably that they will be separated.

Finally, I would keep in mind that these are sick babies who definitely do not look healthy. I am not too sure about the type of emotional impact these pics can have on relative such as grandparents. This might not be photographs that will find their way in the family album. I think it will be better to wait for them to be discharged... Just my thoughts though.

    Cheers,

    Steph.

Well, turns out they are home for the moment, but need to get surgery so they are in a sanitary environment so the woman bought a $100 gift certificate so they can call when they are ready. Seems to be the best solution for all! ;)

I never had a problem shooting news years day babies in the three years I worked for a newspaper. Never had to photograph in any special sections of the hospital though. Hardly was ever anyone but the family around, just went in asked for the room and went on up. Took the photo (flash was used If needed) and was on my way.
