a little different though. The spring recital is coming up, it will be my youngest's first time. Her costume came in, so we thought we'd test it out. She's very pleased with the costume, but not sure on the headband yet.

that little bit of white on top is a twisty, the antenna fell off the headband. Going to superglue it on when the other costume comes in, then do pics.

The costume needs to be in color, but once I had that, I went back to what I really like.

The first shot is cute, but the bw is really really nice. On my screen, though, there are two hot spots, her nose and cheek, that are just a tad too white, but I'm guessing that's simply from your jpeg compression level.

So, you gonna make a poster sized print of it???

I was cracking up when I saw the color one... the blur of the antenae and her expression show much concern for them...lol

that's priceless Adina.... I like the BW one too but I really love how unposed and unexpected the color one is...even without an explanation I think you could see her uneasiness---

She's really a cutie. Is she wearing a ladybug costume? While both shots are winners, I was wondering if you could share some more info about the b&w image? What did you do as far as post-processing goes? How about lighting?

the top is a leotard, with the spots and gold sequins, then there is a skirt that goes over it, and a poofy thing underneath to make it stick out. Quite the set up. They deck these little ones out as much as possible, that way if they don't remember the routine, it doesn't matter, they still look cute.

As far as lighting, this is all natural light. Window to her left and right, with the one on the left being much brighter. She's maybe 3-4 feet from the windows. Conversions....hmm...this one in particular was desaturated, contrast and brightness adjusted, and then toned, all in ps elements. I have a few different methods I use to do this, this one I think was by using a color burn layer. Other times I use the sepia layer effect, or I'll use a new layer, paint bucket a color in, then adjust the transparency. Depends on the image.

Thanks for the info, adina. I'm not very good with PS, but I really like the quality/mood of your people pictures - never harsh, always pleasant, sort of a glowing look to them.
