Allatoona Dam, Super Moon and Sun Surveyor

I think I mentioned I use an App called Sun Surveyor but it works with the moon as well. It is a must if you are a photographer and also carry a smart phone. I planned this out two weeks ago even riding up to the dam with a compass so I would know that the moon would be coming up in the right spot. I can even hold the phone up to the horizon and it will give me line the moon will travel as it comes up. So simple even someone like me can use it. Maybe one day this will be built into the camera, Are you listening Olympus/Sony?

Greg , Good planning which turned out into a great image!

I planned something similar but weather thought different , moon was only visible after 10pm

I use skymap on my phone, great little apps !!!

Very nice picture! I like the fact that there is more than just a shot of the moon out in space. What you have here is much more interesting, Jeff

Nice shot Greg. How did you get the app to show the moon's path? I have it, but couldn't find the feature. I ended up using a smorgasbord of stuff to find the time, degrees, and location...skymap being one of them.

    Very nice, Greg.
Is there any hdr work here?

I'm with Jeff in that it is more than a moon against the blackness of space. Nice scene and glad your pre-planning paid off.

When I use the compass I move the slider up and down and then point the phones camera torwards the horizion. I can move the slider back and forth and it will show the path. I have the paid version.

No Frog believe it or not other than replacing the moon with a perfectly exposed one this is as out of camera of a shot as I have ever taken. The moon in the original was blown out so while I took this picture I took several moon shots exposed properly. But it is the proper size as I only overlaid it over the original. I have a few perfectly exposed but it was to early to get the reflection off of the water.

Thanks Terry that might be a an extreme curve in the bank of the shore line. I had a heck of a time trying to level it and in the end leveled the flag pole and support under it. That was my leveling point.. I figured it was as level as it gets.

I think I'm seeing it, if the moon is represented by a little back dot that tells me where it will rise, but I'm still not seeing a path like what's done for the sun.

When you are in 3D, compass, mode press sunrise times, lower left, and a drop down menu will come up and you can select moon path along with many other options. Then the path should show.

Here is a screen shot. If you click on the sun details lower left, middle, you can change settings.
