    50mm Black and White

OK here is a thread a lot of people should be able to get involved with. These images are done with a 50mm f1.8 and available light. They are indoors in the kitchen with mostly window light coming in form two sides however there is a little fluorescent overhead as well. Two are of my bride one very candid as she worked in the kitchen and the other as she took a break at the table beside me. The last one is of my grandson Wesley just after just after he cleaned out the potato bin, a strong window light above and behind with additional widow light in front. OK there are mine now lets see what you guys can come up with.

Nice set of images Larry. Did you shoot these as B&W in camera or convert in photoshop.

These are done from a color file. I covert to b&w using the channel mixer at 70% red and 30% blue and than add a tad of contrast.

    Ok, I'll play.

First, those are some very nice shots, Larry.

Here's one I took with my rangefinder 50mm f/2 on Fuji Acros. Perspective is a little different, but it's a 50.

I bet Alison jumps right in on this challenge.. That's her favorite lens..

Great submissions guys. I'll have to wait until I get home. My D200 and 50mm is sitting on my desk.

Thanks, Larry. Acros is a 100 ISO tabular grained film similar to Kodak Tmax or Ilford Delta...my favorite of the three.

Oldtimer, Lovely shots of your wife & grandson.
My humble offering from the "other" side of the tracks. ;)
Pentax MG loaded with Kodak BW400CN. Oh, and the 50mm lens is SMC Pentax - M 1.7.

How about Warhol's soup cans without the color?

Available light at MOMA in NYC.

I need help with PP as my D50 doesn't take in BW. This was a quick edit in my basic iMAC iPhoto.

Hey folks!! Long time no post.

Well, here's my contribution...Mr. Rogers Jr.

Not really. He's the owner of a local furniture store called Ryan's Furnishings. This photo was for our Chamber newsletter.

    Enjoy!

Thanks OT. And you're right, I couldn't resist a 50mm thread. And yes, my photo was shot with just window light with my XTi and ISO of 800.

By the way, I have dropped my 50mm three times and it has yet to break. Luck? Or is this thing built just a tad better than most people think despite it having a plastic housing?

I know, I know... and it's black and white to boot All my shooting lately has been with the Rolleicord. Does a 50m equivalent count? I'm putting some Tri-X in the Nikkormat now just for you OT

OK, I'll throw another one in. This time with a Pentax MX and 50mm.
    -Bruce
50mm Pentax lens stopped down slightly if memory serves, and in a dark room with a wee bit of window light.

With a 50, of a 58. One of my most recent victorious shopping experiences. If 58mm is close enough, I'll post a shot taken with that lens.

BTW, I know this isn't the most interesting composition, but can you believe this is Tri-X at 1600 ISO? I can't. First try in DD-X developer and I think I might be hooked.

If the 58 is the normal on that camera I think it counts. A lot of 35mm cameras came with 55mm and 58mm as their normal lens. I'm not familiar with DD-X but I like what it's done. Lets see a little more of it.

Oooooohhh! Thank you for inviting me to join in OT.

You've probably seen these from me before, but, what better way to represent a B&W image than to use a couple of my "Johnny Cash Tribute" pictures, ALL taken at night

The first, obviously a composite of 3 images. One of my moon shots put together with a photograph using only a street light for my lighting. The bg made in PS using different sized brushes to make the stars.

And the second using only a street light for my lighting.

    Me either Ray

I'm just wondering how many people I have convinced to purchase one and how many people I have convinced to dig theirs out and start using again?

And, was it actually me that helped sway their decision?

It was considered normal at the time. It's an MC Rokkor-PF 58mm f1.4. I got it for portraits, but so far I've only tested it on the cat.
