    2004 Photo of the Year

We're going to pick a photo of the year from the Featured Photos of 2004. I need you guys to go through the photos that were chosen last year as Featured Photos, and discuss which ones you like best. From that discussion, the moderators and I, and possibly a special guest or two, will make a list. That list will be posted as a poll and the poll will determine the 2004 Photo of the Year.

Here's a link to the Featured Photo Archive: http://www.photographyreview.com/fea...allerycrx.aspx

Please make sure you stick to photos that were actually posted in 2004. And please limit your discussion and suggestions to images that were chosen as Featured Photos. This may not be a perfect method, but we have to streamline the process somehow. And this should encourage everyone to post more photos in the Photo Critique forum and Gallery this year. You can't make it into the running unless you post in those two sections of the site.

I'm looking forward to seeing the community's choices and opinions. I'm always surprised and illuminated. That's why I wanted to make sure everyone had the opportunity to have their say

Good I hope it works this time.

    Heres' my number 1:
Army's shot of the girl in fishnets:
    Your opinions please

    My number 2:
    Steph B's SKOOKUMCHUK:

I hope we're supposed to post here, John.

I can discuss my rationale later if it arises.

Some of the links to photos on the Oct 2003 to March 2004 archive do not work. The ones I noticed are near the bottom of the page - Michael Fanelli - BrettChisholm - MellissaD - Sebastian - maybe more, I didn't check them all.

My number one is Sunset Bond
    http://gallery.photographyreview.com...php?photo=6449

My number two Mom and Dad

    My number three Many buildings
    Many Buildings

My fourth is Miro's Native girl

these all have such an interesting vantage point and they all kinda transport me into the image/the place and time. They all have beautiful compositions and great lighting. they all tell a very distinct story in three very different ways---
I'll be really interested to see everyone's picks for the pic of the year.

I think that Steph_B's Skookumchuk is the most memorable of these - I don't think I've seen a better photo anywhere online this year.
    Skookum.. what?

    ...closely followed by Nat's selfportrait.
    Trying something new ---for me....

    I also like dadas115's gator

There are many other terrific shots among these that I couldn't really rank. This has been an enjoyable year to be a member of this community. Thanks to all involved.

    Thanks - Checking Problem

    Chunk-
Thanks for pointing that out. When we switched forum software, the old forums got archived and I forgot to fix all the links. It's going to take a bit to get them fixed. In the meantime, I've made some changes to the archive page to indicate when the images were chosen. That way you don't have to worry about looking at older photos (although they're still worth looking at). And maybe we can get the people who's posts are MIA to post them in this thread, so people can really see them.

The updated Featured Photo Archive pages will be live tomorrow afternoon. And we'll keep this discussion open until the end of the month, at which point we'll post the poll.

    Thanks!

One thing I think, if the moderators are going to be selecting the finalists which I think you mentioned above, then we should exclude ourselves from nominating images as contenders, to show that we are unbiased towards a particular image or person.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

That's fine. I was going to keep my thoughts to myself. But I don't really consider this a nomination process. It's just so that we know what the community is thinking and keep their opinions in mind when we make our choices. This is an admittedly sloppy and imperfect process. I'm going to let it be that way and leanr from it. Next year I'll make sure it's more respectable :-)

I would love to be able to see the one by mroda (lone swimmer in swimming pool) better, but the link doesn't work. Is it just me?

The Paul Wolf one doesn't work either.

No, Kelly. It's not just you. When we changed forum software, the old stuff got archived. But I never changed the links. There are a few other problems, but I'm hoping to get those links corrected on Monday. I want all images from last year to get some attention and have a fair chance. They were all good or they wouldn't be in the archive. And the archive should work, anyway.

While I would see some pictures that weren't featured as the best of 2004, I won't go there as I understand that this would kickly get impossible for you guys to manage considering the volume of quality pictures posted here.

With that in mind, here are my favorites photographs (in order) among the featured pictures of last year:

    1) Playful by Tuna

    2) PW034 by Retagger

    3) Park Ave Under the Metro North by Gahspidy

    4) Mom & Dad by Almo

    5) Bunkhouse in Wheat Fields by Awkwards

    6) Many Buildings by Yoyo Szeto

    7) Sarah Fair by d4xycrq

    kelly-
I'm having trouble with the archives. So I'm going to try to contact all psrties with missing images and have them re-post, send me copies, or in this case, a link:

I want to make sure all images in the Featured Photo archive get seen and get a fair chance.

I hate to be the one who can't decide, but I really find it almost impossible to choose a favorite or best of the bunch. I feel all the images are very strong and I like them all for different reasons. some are powerful, some subtle, some just beautiful. I'm going to leave it to the Mods, and will be fine with whatever gets chosen, as they are all worthy. ( Glad I'm not a moderator at this time) !

    Question Let's End This!

I just looked, albeit briefly, over the "votes" here and there seems to be no clear winner.
There are 21 replies to the original post made my John, some of which were made by him.
And the last repliy was made nearly a month ago...
    There is no clear winner.
There are a few votes for Irakly's, gahspidy, Steph_B's.
So what do we do here?
