Has anybody used Quantum T4D flash

I am looking at buying new lighting, and everytime I look at the BH lighting section I see the Quantum Flashes.

While I would love to have a Broncolor or Profoto battery unit for on location stuff, I was curious to see how people like these units as portable light source.

I'm thinking it could be used on camera and off camera which would increase my options.

Any thoughts? My main goal in upgrading it to have consistent studio lighting that would offer the same color temperature on each flash. So Profoto or Broncolor are my choices, but in the field I wouldn't mind balancing light weight over consistent color control.

Re: Has anybody used Quantum T4D flash

Based on my research, and the desire to have a decent lighting system in the studio and on location, I've bought an used Profoto 7B system from B&H.

Since nobody has the Quantum flash, I had to go with a system I could trust. Plus my local pro shop rents this stuff out too so if I needed additional equipment I could just go down and rent it.

    Think that's a good choice...

From my experience, Quantum, while making some good basic gear, isn't up the same pro standards as Profoto or the other bigger name brands. The 7B should be more rugged and reliable for you in the long run...

BTW, I STILL haven't had a chance to take a close look at the D1mkII. Just been too busy, heh heh...

    Hey Steve,
You must be busy if you haven't played with the new camera. It's a beautiful camera.

I am really happy with my decision, and buying it used from B&H I saved $700 from the kit that is on sale right now. Bought one more light, and some reflectors, and a grid for precise lighting.

Played with the setup yesterday, and I was very impressed. Just wish you could play with equipment before you bought it, but when other forums have 200 postings on Profoto, and 4 on the Quantum and 10 on Broncolor I think it was a wise decision. I spent your money quickly!!!

Re: Has anybody used Quantum T4D flash

I have a Broncolor Opus A2 studio flash and two Norman studio flashes. Everything about the Broncolor is vastly superior to the Norman units and better made than any other equipment I have handled. Broncolor (NJ) backs the equipment extremely well. All Broncolor equipment seems to be sold at list price everywhere so I always order directly from the USA Distributor.

They also run a studio photography school (one week sessions) using the Sinar Equipment. That might have changed. I haven't checked in years.

Profoto equipment has an excellent reputation; I have not used it. Broncolor is the Mercedes of the lighting equipment in my opinion.

One fault: The equipment is painted baby blue and looks very "un-photographic".
