Nice series of pictures! Detail and colors are great and I also like the DOF of the background, Jeff

Well, that's a first here. I've never even heard of Gaelic football

The photos look great! What gear did you use? Were there any particular technical challenges? And can you please describe the game for us? It looks a bit like standard football but I see a lot more use of hands?

These where shot with a Canon 300mm f/2.8IS mounted on a Canon 1D MKIII.
The technical challenges was the lighting, the match started at 7:00pm with golden sunlight at my back for the start of the match. I decided to stay in my position for the second half rather than shooting directly into the sun. The second half the sun was setting fast, thus one half of the pitch was in sunlight the other in shade, by the later part of the second half all that golden sunlight was gone.

    A bit about the game
Gaelic football (Irish: Peil, Peil Ghaelach, or Caid), commonly referred to as "football" or "Gaelic", or "Gah" is a form of football played mainly in Ireland. It is, together with hurling, one of the two most popular spectator sports in Ireland.

Gaelic football is played by teams of 15 on a rectangular grass pitch with H-shaped goals at each end. The primary object is to score by kicking or striking the ball with the hand and getting it through the goals. Players advance the ball up the field with a combination of carrying, soloing (dropping and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands), kicking, and hand-passing to their team-mates.

    Regards

Now you've shown us the game.
What I'd like to see is "...kicking, and hand-passing to their team-mates" on the moments of playing the ball - there's a challenge in timing
Catch a hand pass so you can see what's happening, and the ball on the toe while soloing ;)

    SmartWombat,

    As requested from another match
    Soloing

    Kicking

I'll have to look for a better hand pass
