Just want to share with you some of my recent photos. I wish the audiences were farther away. But it was only some local tournaments in small gyms, nothing much I could do.
WOW, those are what you call action shots, there is certainly no lack of that in this series of shots. I like how you didn't forget the little people, the way it looks even the smallest could take me out if needed to. I took Jujitsu when I was a kid and it really helps with confidence.

Hey, thanks guys for looking and leaving your comments !!
Yeah, some of the little guys they fought hard, too. In fact, I was surprised by some of the leg-pick take-downs some of them were doing. Luckily no injuries to any of those little boys and girls that day. Those little guys are fun to watch.
These are some very nice shots. I would be interested in finding out what equipment and settings were used to get these. Your photos bring back some fond memories. One of the first tournaments I competed in with Karate was the "Battle of Atlanta". This is a very big tournament and all first place trophies were over 6ft tall. It was very interesting watching the little kids receive their trophy and try and walk away with it. They all refused any help and some just dragged them across the floor, Jeff

D300 with battery pack. No flash. Auto white balance. ISO1600-3200, mostly 1/500 sec., sometimes down to 1/250sec. I shot wide open with two lenses: Nikon 85 f1.8 and Tamron 17-50 f2.8. I was close to the actions so I didn't need longer lenses.

Glad to be of help
Thanks Jeff.
Thanks for letting me know the settings and equipment. I am trying to get some idea of what equipment it would take to get some of the shots you folks are getting and whether I can afford to get interested in these types of shots or just look at what everyone else takes, Jeff

Dang, these are outstanding. Considering the light you usually get in these small gyms and how fast the action can move, you did a fantastic job capturing some great action.
Not just the big moves, the child pretzel caught my eye for potw.
But it was a tough call, that 5th photo of the second set has a wonderful shape in the throw.
If the lighting in the girls face in the last one had been different, it could have been a 3-way tie !

Wow, didn't know that it could be so complicated Still, happy that one of the shots got chosen for potw !
