    Really off topic.... but....

Well folks, I'll be taking a break from everything for a while, photography and construction. I woke up Thursday and felt lousy, the way I felt I said "flu".... so off to the doc, knowing I am not one to go to the doc to begin with they knew something was wrong when I just walked in the door so they took me right in. After he saw me he sent me for blood work, an hour later I get a phone call saying "John, go to the ER, they are waiting for you, you had a heart attack this morning" So I go off to the ER and wind up spending the night, at one point they had to give me a nitro pill which cleared things up quickly and the next morning it was a trip t o the cath lab for a dye test to see if there were any blockages..... there was one major and 4 very small. The big one was blocked 95%, the others 30% and 15%.
So at 6:00am tomorrow I go back to the cath lab for a single stint to fix the big one. Anyway I'll be out of action for a while on all fronts, and I almost had the polebarn done too!

I'll let you all know how it goes when I get home Tuesday

Best of luck to you John. I have had all of those procedures as well as a valve replacement 10 years ago. I would imagine you've already figured out that when they say "procedure" it's not usually a good thing. Hope everything turns out for the best.

    Re: Really off topic.... but....

lol, I'm used to the word "procedure" after all the operations I have been through, and this one seems (so far) to be the easiest and fastest. I've had both knees, both shoulders, diskectomy on C5-C6 & C6-C7 (4.5 hours), tonsils, 6 ear operations (or is it 8.... lost count!) and this one is a 15 minute deal. They left the thing in so all they have to do is unplug it and go..... a bit uncomfortable sitting or coughing though right now

I'll be thinking about you and praying that all goes well. I had a similar scare a couple years ago but the cath came out great that time. The anxiety alone was enough to give me a heart attack though. I know you have been busy and now a whole new set of problems but you are missed here and I hope you get back on a regular basis real soon.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

All the best John, and good luck.
As procedures go, angioplasty followed by a stent doesn't seem too bad compared to bypass surgery.
Though it's not a permanent cure in all cases, it keeps the arteries open for longer than balloon angioplasty alone.

6 years in a medical imaging unit of a teaching hospital, I've seen a few things.

Thanks everyone! This sure isn't what I expected to be doing but it could have been much worse and it's only one major blockage so it should be OK. And it may slow me down enough to spend more time here

Great job by your primary doctor to draw the blood and run the appropriate tests. I'm working on a massive Vioxx class action case right now and I've seen thousands of medical records. So often the difference between a (relatively) minor cath procedure and a full-on heart attack and CABG is the primary physician's ability to catch it early.

Take care, get well soon, watch your diet and you'll be healthy as ever. I'll be praying for you.

    Re: Really off topic.... but....

Vioxx eh, lol, I took it ONCE, 10 minutes later I got sick! And I thought (so did the doc) that it was OK for people with messed up stomachs like mine.... the stuff that wasn't so good for those like me never made me sick.... very strange but it shows different reactions to different meds that people have.

I really hate the Nitro's though, fortunately I only needed one and I was still in the hospital then!

So sorry to read this JS. Many prayers being sent to you.

My mil had this done about a year ago. Same thing. Thought she was sick, found out she had a heart attack. They put a stint in and she's good as new.

Now I'm putting on my Mom. hat. Who has been yelling at you for how long about your health? Please take care now after this scare.

    Thinking of you JS!

    Thanks everyone!
Well I am home again, at least the dogs missed me, the cat didn't though Of course I think the dogs really were more worried about getting fed than me being home.... although Gizmo did jump up and give me lots of doggie kisses..... Cassie just stuffed her head into the food and filled herself up

Anyway I went in for 1 stent and wound up with 3! Not sure why they added 2 but they did. Oh well, all in all I do feel better for the most part.... just hate taking all these pills and now having to carry nitro everywhere I go.
