I like the picture, not to use in a newspaper, because of the blur. But it shows the action, I think with some post processing looking to a more art related side, it could be a really nice pic

Mind you though I only got 1/400 on a few occasions. Most of the time it was like a stop or two may be more slower. My 17-50 has f2.8 but couldn't give me the reach. At ISO 3200 I don't really want to crop a whole lot. 70-300 is a f4.5 and so couldn't get much speed out of it.
Here's one of the better ones if not the best (17-50 mm @ 50mm f2.8 1/250sec ISO 3200) Cropped of course, and this's a slower throw:
