I am submitting one of these as part of a series of six. I can't decide which one to submit!

#2 is a crop is it not? It appears to suffer from degraded IQ. I can't pick out a focused point. It would have been better shot at that aspect, instead of cropped out of the larger frame.
#1 is better, as a complete image. The extreme right is cut off the island, but that's my only real critique. Placing the Kiter in the left side of the image would help. I think as it creates a stronger composition to have the subject entering the frame as it were, rather that exiting. In making a final selection between the two it might help to know the context in to which it is going to fit.
    It's not about the camera....

Thanks for the input. IQ is an issue because I did not want to post a great copy. I was more interested in feedback on the composition and aspects other than IQ.

Which is the subject for the submission - the skier or the complex (Alcatraz?)? - Terry

Understandable, however IQ is going to be one of the first things someone is likely to pick up. My opinion is that for critical purposes a good quality image with a watermark is probably better than a marginal image.

The subject is the boarder but not this specific one. They are looking for unique backgrounds.

Thanks. I need to develop a watermark that I'm more comfortable with. The one I use now isn't that great.

I like the first one over the second.. I think the ugly water tower stands out too much in the cropped version, plus there's nice sky in the full version

go with # 1 it's a more appropriate treatment of a unique background.
