Re: I got hit HARD last night....

Yeppers, had to stay there for my son. It was all about him that night and there was no way I was leaving.

The head coach told Brendan after reviewing the tapes that his Mom sure knew how to take a hit. lol

Re: I got hit HARD last night....

Well thanks goodness JETA. I just knew that the next time we heard from you it was going to be that you had just gone through ACL surgery. You may remember that one of my daughters has had three ACL reconstructions and the other daughter has had two so I know a lot about the rehab on those things. I know the broken bone is nasty and sorry you have to go through that but those knees are really tricky.

I can't wait to see what kind of pictures you get from a wheel chair. I know your not going to let a little thing like a broken leg slow you down.

If that is hubby there with you on the field than I see where those boys get their size. Thanks goodness they weren't a throw back to Mom. (LOL) Both my boy's are right at 6 foot and I barely make 5''7". Talk about a dad that is glad the boys take after Mom your looking at one.

Homecoming and senior night for us tonight too. Hope Brendan and the boys have a great game.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Re: I got hit HARD last night....

Sorry to hear your daughters have had to go through all of that. From what I hear it isn't fun at all. I am grateful for my broken leg just being that. Broken.

I already got it big time from my husband about wanting to shoot from my chair. Last night I gave all of my equipment to my friend so he could shoot. Know what I just did? Got my IIn out of the box and charging the batteries as I type. I'm going to bring my flash, fisheye and telephoto and maybe I can get something.

Spoken like a true sports shooter. I'm proud of you. You should be able to get some interest sidelines stuff with the fisheye that will add some real diversity to end of the year slide show.

    You do that !
Thank goodness your ligaments and cartilage are OK. If you can keep your joints intact, then the mending of the bones while it takes time is far less complicated than having surgery on your joints.

Arthritis is the main reason Angie's in her chair for days out, her kneecaps pop out too. Hips, knees, ankles, one torn achilles tendon, it all adds up to too much pain to stand for long.

    Thanks SW.

Please give Angie a big hug for me. I can't imagine having to deal with that type of pain day in day out. It's funny (not haha) how until something is taken away from me do I not realize how the simple things in life (like walking) mean so much. Last night I was dreaming about walking.

I go to the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to make sure my femur and tibia are still separated like they are supposed to be. Wish me luck!

I have a tibial plateau fracture. So right below my knee I broke the bone from the very top on down quite a ways. They are concerned that the tibia and femur may come together (displaced). If that happens then I'm messed up for life. I'll find out tomorrow if everything is still nice and separated.

    Thanks for the luck SW!

Oh dear, otherwise known as "autombile accident fracture" named because of the relationship of pedestrian knees to car bumpers in road accidents.

You've got to keep the pressure off that knee until it's healed.

Even a small one if not rested can lead to arthritis. My mother's was just a chip off the bone compared to yours, but she didn't rest it and in the end took medical retirement from teaching. she fell off her motor bike on the ice in the driveway at the school where she taught.

Take good care of yourself !

Re: I got hit HARD last night....

Just wanted to quickly update you guys since you've been so kind and supportive.

As of today I started walking again. It's more like hobbling, but hey! I lost those stinkin' crutches and for that I'm grateful.

I'll be starting rehab right away and within 3 months my ortho thinks I'll be as good as new.

Thanks again for the support. This is really a great forum.

    Thanks Roger,

I've actually taken photos through this whole ordeal. Even did a photo shoot of the Senior football players. That worked out well because I did the whole shoot laying flat on my back or sitting on the ground. I scheduled the shoot b4 I broke my leg and planned on using a fisheye and shooting down low for some nice effects. It worked out great with my broken leg.

Now don't overdo it by lugging lots of camera gear and straining those healing joint surfaces.

JETA, Sorry to hear about you taking such a hit. Glad to hear you are on the mends though. I've come close a few times on the sidelines at football games. Even had refs push me out of the way. I always tell the shooters for the local high school journalism class that if they see me moving for them to jump out of the way because they are all way smaller than me. Been lucky thus far at football. Hit a couple times at basketball and got a camera wiped out shooting softball and took a baseball to the head shooting high school baseball once. Still a little jumpy after those two incidents. Hopefullly you'll be healed up in time for basketball.

Re: I got hit HARD last night....

After my shoulder injury I have been a bit jumpy as well and do not wait as long to get out of the way....I got enough problems without getting injuted again or having to go through another operation.I may howver need an operation on my left achilles tendon that has caused problems for about 5 years now. The surgeon said "normally you'd be off it for 6 months, but with you I figure 2 cause you won't listen". LOL, after my shoulder surgery they said 8 weeks minimum, but I was back shooting in 12 days I just couldn't stay away, heck, the day AFTER surgery I drove up the street to watch the girls basketball sectionals. The school didn't even charge me because they felt bad. Of course I worked a year and a half with that shoulder messed up, it got so bad I could barely lift the camera so thats why I finally had it fixed....I am a bit stubborn
