The eyes have it

It's nice... the eyes are sharp and the colours are strong.

The idea behind the shot is certainly a good one. However, I sense there was a really peachy shot to be had from a different angle, maybe using the reflection from his visor? Filling the frame with his helmet - eyes peeping out - showing the reflections of the team and technology around him... hmmm... maybe... or maybe not?!

If I had accreditation and a pit lane pass I could have got a better angle

Problem with the reflection idea as you see is that it's reflecting the lights of the service rig that's above the car, carrying mains power, tyre heater supply and so on.
I've got some side shots that I wasn't sure about, I'll see if there's a good reflection there.

The reflection idea would probably work if he put his visor down in the garage.
As you can see even as he drives out the visor is open, so it's reflecting the lights again.

I can understand your comments on the visor and the reflections - but the second shot in particular is nice - even if it is just reflecting the service rig.

The third, well there's nothing special about it, to me.
It's OK but I wouldn't pick it as an outstanding example.

That's very interesting, a friend of mine who used to work in a race team liked #1 particularly.
He's also a photographer, with plenty of on-track and Rally action shots.

Recently though, where we've been to the same events, he's been following me around and taking the shots I point out to him ... so perhaps I'm not so bad

To get other photographer's opinions is very useful, it's why I come here!
