Photography is about the image, and the camera is only a part of that equation. It's actually a small part, in my opinion. The most important thing is the person behind the camera. That professional may snear at you because you're not using a top end digital body, but you're getting a couple added bonuses to your photography skills.

By not having a top end camera, you have to develop your timing more. You can't just fire off a string of pictures and pick the best of the sequence. You have to develop your skills to get the perfect shot.
Very well put!! I couldn't agree more.

Re: Can someone help me with my WB please???

First off there are many more differences between the DRebel and a 1D.

#1: The body, plastic vs magnesium, dust proof vs constant cleaning
#2: Weight, you know when your holding a 1D. The added wieght though gives a much better balance, and tons more control when panning.
#3: A lot more settings possibilties
#4: 8.5 frames a second vs 3 in 1.5 seconds (I think the DRebel is actually slower though)
    #5: 20 frame bursts vs maybe 4 or 5
#6: 0 shutter lag vs mega lag on DRebel

And thats just the beginning. As for frames per second, that is one thing sports photographers need. I get requests for sequence shots of plays, and when shooting races it is invaluable for getting an entire sequence of a crash.
One of my best sales was to a parent of her son during a dive, the entire sequence, from board to water, 11 8x10's and $$$!

If your camera gets you the shots you want, the it certainly is good enuf. There is definatly a point in photography when you have outgrown your gear and it's time to upgrade, but that time is not when someone else tells you that you need to. Just because there is something better out there, doesn't make your gear obsolete
Thanks everyone. My need to upgrade has come with the more sports shot I take I always end up coming up to some sort of limitations. I'm for SURE not buying anything cuz someone told me it wasn't good enough. I like to research, look and ask personal opinions from those who have gone b4 me.

With my camera b4 my rebel I had one shot. One. I learned when to shoot to get the one perfect shot of a pitcher. How to watch a football play to try and get the optimum shot. It is a great way to learn. So when I got my rebel I was in hog heaven because I could take 4 shots in a row. Now I find myself wanting to fling my camera on the field when I'm waiting for the camera to recover.

So you totally misunderstand me. I don't do anything because someone told me so. No matter what you buy in today's market, there is always going to be something bigger and better to come along. I'm a friendly person and love to talk to people and hear what they have to say. I am hungry to learn and I see nothing wrong with that.

Re: Can someone help me with my WB please???

    JETA,

I can understand your frustration. Before I bought my XT, I was using my DREB to shoot hockey so I can definitely understand your frustration. I missed a number of key plays waiting for my camera to recover. I also had to learn to anticipate plays and get my timing down, shutter lag and all. Overall, I think this made me a better photographer.

If you're serious about making an upgrade, I would consider the 20D. It allows up to five fps, has some of the features of the 1D like manual color temperature setting and ISO 3200. It also comes in at an affordable $1500. You can usually get the battery grip for another $150-$200, depending on where you shop.

I've considered ordering one for myself. I wouldn't mind the manual white balance controls and the slightly faster fps that it has over the Rebel XT. I could use the XT as a second body with a shorter lens.

I use Kelvin, unless I'm using flash and then I use flash setting for WB as it is excellent in color representation, even using non canon flash in manual mode. A pain in the rear as you have to keep changing flash settings depending on how far away the action is, but once you figure it out it's easy.

I do use a hood 99% of the time at night...well until it vanished $40 for a new one. I may just go to a rubber sewer adapter.... $3.95 and works just a well, safer for the kids if they run into it too!
