Went skiing recently. Most digital pictures came out with blue hue.

here is an example of two pictures. First one is a picture of the mountain that looks normal. The other was taken while I was on a ski lift and seems to have a blue hue. Look at the snow. Many of the pictures came out with this coloration.

Camera is a 3.2 mega pixal. Set to ultra fine res. Auto mode.

I frequently get similar hue problems with my 3mp camera...I really don't know why it happens...but was wondering...Sunrise or Snow Bowl???...hehe btw...I'm a native Arizonan...hehe...I haven't seen Sunrise in probably 30 years...so it's hard for me to know which is which...but It kind of looks like Snow Bowl to me...I'm probably wrong...it's probably Colorado or something like that...haha...

Re: Went skiing recently. Most digital pictures came out with blue hue.

Hi BK...currently "I" live in Wisconsin...but I was born and raised in AZ...I have 3 daughters in Phx...I own some property in Kingman and have relatives and friends in every nook and cranny of the state...hehe...I figured I'd be wrong...hehe...like I said, it's been over 30 years since I saw Sunrise. I worked there one winter when I was in High School at Round Valley...I lived in Flagstaff for years and spent a little time up at the Snow Bowl. As for uploading some pics...I'm sure all of us who like great pics would love to see them...
Where are you from in AZ??

They look underexposed to me, that can be a source of a WB problem. I have no idea why, that's just what it seems to do!. Shift the colors in a photo editor by making the snow white.

Yes. It's a White Balance (WB) issue

Light has a color cast depending on the light source. Tungsten has a lot of red, and shade on a sunny day has a lot of blue (as present on your shots). Our brains correct for this, but cameras have a more difficult time of it. You can set the WB on most digital cameras, and the automatic WB setting does a pretty good job on most cameras most of the time. Some times they don't though, eh?

If the color cast of those images bother you, learn how to change the WB setting on your camera (or fix the images in PP).

Simple Levels adustment using the black & white eye droppers. Two clicks and done.

My guess, this is a WB issue.

ps. As Michael Fanelli points out...

There is also an exposure issue. The meter on your camera is trying to set the exosure of your image to nuetral. The snow, which is a lot of the image -- however, is bright white. And this fools your meter into under-exposing the image. You'll need to manualy compensate for this by adjusting the camera somehow (i.e. spot metering a nuetral area, increasing the compensation a stop or so, etc.)...

    Almo...few questions

What is WB as in your post? Also, what program did you use to lighten the pic and what tool inside the program? How?

    I have paintshop pro.

    Re: Almo...few questions

In PSP, use Automatic Color Balance. You can click the Remove Color Cast box. There are also ways to use droppers to select white, grey, and black point like what Almo did. Look at all the Adjust Color menu items.
