Still Getting a LOT of Server Busy Pages

I hadn't seen any "server busy" pages for a while and then today about 4 or 5. Wonder if it's related to the recent influx of spam.

Question - could the server being busy so often be due to the fact that lately there are thousands of people actively listed as online at any given time? Right now it says there are 9116 people actively viewing PR.

I don't think these figures are accurate because I have noticed for the past few weeks that many are listed online 24/7. Is that a glitch?

I haven't had any problems, guys. I'm not questioning that there's a problem. It just makes it hard to trouleshoot. I reported the problem to our IT guy, though. Hopefully he can track down the problem and eliminate it.

Hi OT - you are one of the members whose name is on the "active" list 24/7 the past few weeks. You wouldn't catch it because your name would automatically show up when you log on. There are quite a few member names, including mods whose names are always included as active - 24/7.

This is why I'm wondering if having more than 9000 people active at once (or listed as active, even when not active) would be part of the reason the server is busy so much. I had very long waiting times today when I tried to access the site.

That number is inaccurate and even if it was, 9000 should be nothing for our servers. As for the users that are always active - it's probably because they, like me, leave a browser window open on the forums and then go do other things.

Thanks, Jeff. When was the last time you had that error? I've been told that the forums were really bad last night but that they were fixed this morning (CA time). So if you've had errors later in the day then there might still be a problem. I still haven't had any problems so this could be partially a regional issue of some sort, too.

I had the same problem about 5-6 times from late this morning into the early afternoon. I did manage to squeeze in between the cracks, but once or twice only got to read/reply to one post - then the server busy message came up again.

My problems were about 7-10am cental time (11/29). The top banner and menu items would come up and then it would just sit there for 45 sec to 1 minute before the rest of the page would come up. After waiting, I got Server Busy about 10-15% of the time. - Terry

Thanks, guys. So far it sounds like the problems were consistent with what I was told by our team. Unless you're still having trouble, I think the problem is fixed.

Ive been trying off and on all day and this is the first time I was able to get here. I read that this was supposed to be fixed, but this has been a ongoing issue for me and from what has been posted, others too.

Well, we fixed one major problem. But there are always new ones popping up. Can you give me some more information? Can you give me the exact error you're getting or a more specific explanation of the problem? The actual "server busy" problem should not be happening. But there are no guarantees.
