Last night we had a pretty cool lightning storm so I tried my first attempt and getting a good lightning shot. Heres my favorites.

Knowing my luck, I'd get hit by the damn bolt from having it ground out on my tripod, but any ways those are really nice shots. We had a storm last night around my neighborhood and was thing of trying, but there are way to many trees. So do you have any techs on what you did? f-stop, speed, or bulb for a minute. Just would like to know.

No fair!!

I'm in Sonoma County and I see a bunch of huge clouds go by, and on the weather reports, the storms are always downwind of me...we get little 5 minute storms about three times a year...in the day time...


Cool shots though...very well done.

What I find fun are animated gifs...I took video of one of the daytime storms (it was sorta dark, but too bright for long exposure shots), then went frame by frame taking screenshots...

I like to see the storm shots, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments. I was using my Fuji s5100 and setting shutter speed to 15secs and F5, it was hard to sit in one spot and just hope for a bolt when you want to turn and face another direction everytime it strikes behind you.

I've never shot lightning but I've always wanted to. I know exactly what you mean about changing directions though, because I know I would do that if I were shooting it. I guess it's just like changing lanes in a traffic jam.

I love the color in the second picture. Kinda looks unreal. Also the little "puffy" clouds in front add to the picture as well. Good work!

Wow! Those are two amazing shots! I've been trying to capture lightening around here for ages, It never lasts long enough to get a nice shot. ;(
