    Question Need software recommendation

I just got a new computer and I need a digital photography software
recommendation. I have a Dimage Z1, and must confess that I really
haven't checked out the software that came with it. I had an
ancient computer before and used some old stuff that I don't want to
    load on my new pc.

The bottom line is that I need 1 package that:
    1) Will allow me to do basic photo editing (resizing, rotating,
adjustments, etc.) especially with the ability to fix red-eye.
    2) Will allow me to create slideshows with music (from MP3s) that I
can burn to a CD from within the program (i.e. not have to create a
movie/mpeg file and then use a separate piece of software to create
    a VCD).
    3) Has a nice interface for viewing photos on the screen.
    4) Has a nice interface for printing multiple photos at once.

I'm just using XP for the first time and I see it has some decent
stuff built in for viewing/printing photos. However, it would be
nice to do everything within one package.

    Thanks in advance!
    David

    Re: Need software recommendation

Welcome to the forum. I saw that you also posted this in the Help forum - we'd appreciate it if you didn't post in multiple forums and this is probably the best place for this subject.

Anyway, check to see what software came with the camera. A quick check at B&H to learn a little about your camera didn't help - maybe that particular model has been replaced. That happens often with small digital cameras. My Coolpix is two years old and been replaced twice by newer models! Still works fine so no need to replace it.

B&H does list a Z10 but I don't know if that's similar to what you have. It says that it includes Dimage Viewer, which would likely do what you need it to do - except for #2. Digital cameras usually come with basic software to do things like this so you should be OK. If you don't have it or want something more advanced I'd recommend Adobe Photoshop Elements, version 3.0 just came out. I don't think you can do slideshows as you describe from it though - maybe someone else can recommend something for that.

Acdsee does a good job with slideshows.

Sorry about the double posting. I posted it here first and then thought I might've put it in the wrong place. :-(

I'm really hoping for a package to do everything, if one exists. It may not--I'm not sure.

I think acdsee suite "may" do all of that. I'm sure of everything but the editing part and the music part. The suite has an editor with it but I've never used it. Download a trial and see if it's what you're looking for: http://www.acdsystems.com/English/Pr...CDSee-Download

Will it burn them straight to a VCD or DVD? Or does it just create the movie file (thus requiring you to use another piece of software to actually burn it to the media)?

I'm not sure, it may. I've only ever used it as a viewer / resizer and sometimes the occasional other feature.

An excellent program is Ulead PhotoImpact 10. Check it out on this page:
