    Question JPEG File Properties

I'm new to digital photography but one thing I was really excited about was that the camera records all of the settings when you take the photo, shutter speed, aperture, white balance, etc. No more need to keep a written log. I'm currently taking JPEGs and when I examine the file properties I only get some of the information that I can get from the camera (for example no white balance settings). Is this information embedded in the JPEG file somewhere else, do I need some "real" photo software to find it, or is it simply not there? If not is there a way to download this info separately? Would this information be in the RAW file? Thanks for your help!

It might depend on the camera model as well. I'm only familiar with Canon, but as far as I know, the info is pretty much all there. Some software is better than others at showing you the actual data. Breezebrowser software (Breezesys.com) is really pretty good at divulging info, even tells you the serial number of the camera.
