    Re: Winter, Plate 3

    I like it.
there is something odd in how blurred the background is even in the areas behind him that seem to be not so distant that i almost feel he is not part of the scene. Almost like he is standing in front of a painted background. However, even with this somewhat disconnect of the subject to the environment, I don't actually feel it in a negative way. . .just a curious way.
I really don't see anything that strikes me as needing attention or to be critiqued. My first impression upon viewing it was positive and i immediately felt it was good.
I had considered bringing up the stalks near the subject and wondered about removing the ones nearest him, but I actually feel they add and if anything, help bring a connection.
I do like how the subject stands out nicely and the bg in itself has a pleasing aspect to it.
Its good Dray, works for me.

Thanks for the feedback, Gary. I think this was shot somewhere from 1.2 - 1.6... I can't remember specifically which f-stop. But that would be the reason for the blurred bg and the disconnect, as you put it.

It was a test snap. Hoping to shoot this guy for real pretty soon.

I like this shot quite a bit myself. It sorta looks as if it is an aged photograph, with the subject given an expert color uplift.

    Thanks, arne.

Perhaps I should bring the subject's color/vibrance down a bit?

I really like the tones of this one. I think it's much better than the close-up version you've had of him. I also like the mix of gritty tough looking background to smooth crisp toned subject, makes for a nice congtrast. i also really love the in focus branches that are close to us in the foreground. Also the scratchiness of the edges of the BG are nice and subtle. good stuff!

That's not what I meant to suggest, I like it as is.

    Liban - thanks!

Arne - no, I know... I was thinking about it myself and wondering if anyone else agreed...

Another edit. Increased saturation in bg, more pop in general.
