    Out At The Plate

Caught this one yesterday. I cropped the shot to show just the play itself.

Nice capture of one of the most exciting plays in baseball. I love the play at home and the one at second on the attempted steal. They make for great action shots. Your angle and the catchers mask robbed us of some of the great expressions you can get on this kind of photo, but you did caprure the peak action. Nice job.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I agree on the angle, OT. The light was pretty bad (overcast, very lousy light), and the third base side was better in that respect. As for the mask.....he could've been wearing one of the goalie style masks, so I considered myself lucky on that count.. I've submitted the original to At The Yard, so we'll see if they consider it publishable.

Yup, nice timing there John. The angle shows the tag very well, no one can claim he's safe!

The way the light falls here, in the late afternoon and twilight everything is back lit when shooting from the first base side, so I customarily shoot from the third base side on these plays at the plate. What I might try though, is moving to a spot just at the edge of the backstop where I'm looking right up the third base line. I'll see how that works out.
