    Wet Street @ Night

Done scanning some pictures in, and thought I'd like to share this one and get some feedback on it, I am trying to NOT center stuff so much, I am aware of the rule of thirds, but implementing it, well, Sometimes I don't "do-so-good" But, At least Now I Realize that and That's the first step ( wait, are their 12 steps?? - No, wrong program... ) This composition was actually inspired by Sebastians Chinese lantern photo, that accompanied his waterfall shot....

    Gday clicker,

Nice shot, I think the composition works well, light is especially good, but I would of liked to see maybe a longer exposure time so that the cars aren’t so prominent, more ghost like.

    Thats it.

Great shot. I like the composition and the subtle colors in the foreground contrasting with all that great color on the street. Nice work.

    Rachel...

What I love is the long reflections on the wet street. All those dots and cars makes it so exciting. As for the rule of third, I'd say you did it perfectly.(see pic below)

That pretty much sums up what I was thinking.

    Rachel,

I'm glad my shot inspired you.

Great exposure. I have only one comment to make, my eye keeps getting drawn to the dark car with the bright orange, partly due to the contrast, and partly due to the reflection lines leading my eye to it.

Hey Guys, thanks for your comments, I just wanted to say that I do have some shots like you have described, They are at home though... But they have more light trails and the hydrant is much more prominent because of that... I will try to post later this evening, and then you can tell me if it is stronger an image than this... ( I didn't look at them that long, but I really enjoy the rain for the reflection of lights seen in the dark wet streets...so I posted this one! )

Chunk and Gary- Thanks for the positive feedback! I really appreciate it! -signed Scanner ( how do i change my user id??? lol.

Kit- Thanks for adding a grid for me!! Question- do you think it would of been more dynamic if i would of stooped down lower to place the line of cars **Exactly** on the top third? the hydrant did land pretty nicely didn't it? ;) Maybe if there would of been another vehicle behind the last one on the right.... hm

Thank YOU Sebastian! So, is being drawn to the dark vehicle a bad thing?? I myself find the bright orange light reflections in the water to be very interesting ( its actually why I go out when it rains... to get those) But in your opinion, do you find them to be annoying?

    All suggestions/comments are welcome!

Well, that depends on what you want the image to do. It distracts me from the hydrant, so I'll let you be the judge.

BTW, don't fixate on getting stuff right on the rule of thirds, it's just a guideline to keep people from centering things, placing a subject directly on a cross section ro next to it is needlessly splitting hairs.

Seb, Mostly I wanted to have something of interest in the foreground, my main subject was the reflections in the water, but I didn't want to just take a shot of the reflections at this location, I kinda wanted it to be like 2 subjects in one, reflections & hydrant, let the eye wander...

"don't fixate on getting stuff right on the rule of thirds"

Okay, I'll remember that, I sometimes just get in a hurry/lazy what-have-you, and then I'm having to recrop in PS, I'd much rather just get it right the first time and spend my time in PS getting rid of dust bunnies... actually, That's not too fun either...

No it would not be as good. I like the large area dedicated to the reflections, which in my opinion make the shot. Besides, whatever is..is. You made a choice of what you wanted in your shot and stuck with it. You instinctively put the hydrant in the bottom right third. Good enough.

BTW... I sent you a PM (private message) early this AM. You haven't read it yet, what's with that? ::: you gothic wannabe:::

Hell yes!, that is very cool. I feel like I the hydrant is a time travelling device (ha ha ha). I like this picture alot more!

I kind of wish I hadnt seen the first one now, I really do think it is trippy, I could imagine standing (if there was no sub-title) and staring at this for ages, very cool .

I like the original better. I think it shows the wetness of the street better and I like the stronger, more defined colors.

It does have a lot of movement to it.... doesn't it? lol.
I love light trails and this one, came out kinda neat, because it has a very prominent one right on the top portion, surrounded by black....

Sorry the first one ruined it for you, maybe you can pretend it was when the time travelers were in "docking" mode?

I agree, I like the contrast of the brights and darks better on the first, and the added circular shapes created by the brake lights, not to mention the long reflections....if i had to chose between the two - i too would choose the first.. but alas, i have them * Both
