    Train Station Series

Today, I put away my new D70 DSLR, picked up my Leica IIIc rangefinder with a 50mm lens, loaded a roll of Kodak T400CN B&W film and headed out the door looking for inspiration.

    All comments and critique appreciated.

I can't think of any better use for a 50 mm than the two first shots! I love them!

I think that you got a very interesting subject in your third shot. However, you shot the benches at an angle.I would have shot them straight (meaning that the benches should be parallel to the film plane). I would then have make sure that the first row merges with the next and so on... I think this would have given a very abstract pic. But I can also be totally wrong!

As for the last shot... well sorry, it does not work for me. Somehow, I fail to see the subject.

    Cheers,

    Steph.

Your search was certainly successfull. Thank for sharing the results. In the first shot I like the elegance of the light and potted plant that soften the harsh utiliterian architecture. The second is also very nice but I wish for that label on the door's window to be made less noticeable by either burning it in or spotting or cloning it out.
In the third shot there is a tension created by the battle for our attention between the brightness of the nearer bench and the sharpness of focus of the second. I think you created a better shot this way than if you had given both lighting and focus to either.
The last shot is eye candy for me. I like all the textures and my eye keeps roving and discovering more and more.

Hi Steph. I agree about the last shot - multiple focus points causing a somewhat cluttered reference to the viewer. But something about it reminded me of similar style architectural study shots by Atget, Abbott, etc. from the early and mid 1900's. So, I posted it...

    Thanks for the comments.

What a goofball I am! My intent in all these photos is to try to depict this train station (built in 1901) in a "timeless" fashion. The stark, straightforward photographs of the past that documented many wonderful locations.

So what did I leave on the door? A "DO NOT ENTER" sign...

    Thanks for noticing and commenting.

I think it is presented in a "timeless" fashion. I was thinking a slight sepiatone may age them a bit. I like the first and the last best.Besides the "do not enter" sign" you removed, you may want to remove the arrow on the first photo. I don't know if they used arrows back then to show the way. hmm no idea. anyway, the 3rd pic of the seats would be nice if more of the seats were showing. Is this all there is to the series, or is it just a beginning?
