Some what of an illusion

Well i was taking picture of my cat again, they didnt come out like i liked them, but i look up at the closet door and i thought this looked realy cool so i took it, tell me what you think please

Hey YoungShooter,

Your exposure probably wasn't optimal here. The brighter areas of the picture have a rather harsh lighthing to them.

That being said, I enjoy the concept. I think that you had a good idea. I don't know if b&w would work best here. The colours on the door are really interesting. I guess that I would need to see it to judge about it.

I like the contrast. I actually really like this photo. Very much. I like examining it, looking around it. You've captured the textures well and I like how the latch is in harsh sunlight. It's a very interesting photo.

Actually, I guess that I haven't expressed myself properly. There is a good amount of details in your picture, both in the shadows and highlights. I think that your exposure is good. My concern was and remain about the bright areas being somewhat harsh. (And this is actually a personal preference, your picture is still remarkable).

You might want to try to reshoot at a different time of the day(although it may not lead to the result you are seeking for since the light will enter by the window at a different angle, leading to a different effect) or at the same time in a different weather.

A simplier thing to do in such a situation would be to bracket when shooting to get the same picture with various exposures and pick the one you think works best.

Finally, a last (and fun) option would be to play with your metering. I don't know if you shot this one with your D70 but if so, I supose that you used matrix metering. Using spot metering and shooting few pictures while metering on different areas of the scene will also lead to various and potentially surprising results.

There are various way to achieve a given result and this is especially true with an SLR.
