    Hungry Club

A Topless Bar on infamous Broadway in San Francisco.
The colors and architecture caught my eye as did the very poplike posters on either side.
    Any thoughts?

    Re: Hungry Club

I was expecting something to do with food Rebekah That being said, there's just a little too much going on here for me. I would crop a large portion of the right off, just because with the people and the book store, you lose so much to it. Though the topless entertainment sign is a nice touch, the stuff below is just too busy for me.

    Interesting subject though,

    Jared

Jared thanks. I agree the book store throws it off. I like the people, as the girl shows indifference, the man walking towards us looks like hes trying not to look and the kid is definitely looking.
This strip of North Beach (Broadway) is full of strip clubs and adult themed bars (but is ultimately the least hilly way to get into the heart of North Beach where the good food is!)

This is a good color photo...nice vivid colors that draw me into the picture.
I like the angle and the amount of sign that was captured. The composition is good and I like the elements that were captured, except the people. I think you could have waited for a more interesting scene to unfold (I'm sure there are some interesting people going in and out of that club)...the people in the photo now don't provide enough interest to give it that wow factor.
Sometimes tho, we can't sit around and wait for things to happen...
Good capture and nice photo. Cheers.

PT- thanks... at this point I am going strictly for technical aspect. Since going back to film and working with the n80 I am relearning everything.
I agree this is a place that allows for interesting scenes to unfold... unfortuntately- at night, and we were there during the day.
thanks again for your feedback! I appreciate it!

    Re: Hungry Club

Well - technically speaking you did an outstanding job! Nice exposure and depth of focus for this photo.
Glad to see your enjoying film...this is all I've been working with since starting photography a year ago and I love it...there is a lot to learn tho! I'm getting more and more confident (and broke ;) ) with each exposed roll.
Keep up the great work. Cheers.

    Re: Hungry Club

I think this is more interesting the way it is than having a sterilizing crop done to it. Here you are recording the feel of the neighborhood rather than just documenting a gaudily painted building.
My memory of the Hungy I is an album cover (Kingston Trio I think) of my brothers back in the 60s. It was a cartoonish drawing of SF with some clubs drawn in exaggerated size. I think it was a popular spot in the folk music world back then.

    Re: Hungry Club

Thanks PT- at this point I am taking roll after roll of the same thing just to get used to the settings, aperature, shutter speed and exposure, etc. So this trip and last weeks trip to Santa Barbara was the first attempt at "thinking on your feet" with this camera. When i started (10 years ago) it was with film, and with a small 35mm point and shoot camer, working with b/w, then moved on to a nicer olympus point and shoot 7 years ago. When my hubby bought the fuji finepix 3 years ago I really started focusing more on photography as more than a once in a while hobby, and recently decided to go back to film. So i've had limited experience with all of the controls of a "real" camera.
    Thanks again
