Well, welcome aboard!! Hope you enjoy it here. And now, on to the photo...

First things first. The photo is dark, too dark for my taste anyway. I would expose a bit more next time. What kind of camera is this anyway, and what mode are you using? That can be as important anymore as the exposure method. Second, you might try a slightly different composition. For instance, get closer to the fence and frame the rest of it receding away from the camera. If it does that, . Here's to better photos in the future.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I thought that at least for my first few posts, I'd post exactly what I shot instead of enhancing it. The darkness is the result of the picture being taken during the only lull in a day long drenching rain - it's a very accurate capture of the actual lighting conditions at the time. The camera is a Nikon D70 - using the kit lens, I've also got the 70-300mm.

    Welcome aboard

Often times this kind of lighting works well. I think for this photo however, soft early or late day light could spice it up more. Try using the "cloudy WB, -2" setting on your D70 on cloudy days, this will warm up the photo and saturate the colors more. The vegetation in the back is really busy and can easily dominate the fence. Maybe a different angle would offer less competition for the fence.

Keep shooting and don't be afraid to try different things.
