    Second Attempt at Fence Post

I went back to re-shoot the post but the sky was overcast and color was lacking. Recomposed with the second post in mind but chose BW over color this time around. Any and all thoughts / comments welcome.

    Regards

I think it's a good photo technically, but personally I would have zoomed out. The subject is not so interesting as to shoot it that close, in my opinion. I do like the black and white and the wood texture.

I really like this. With the other post in the background for counter-balance, everything seems to come together very nice. I remember seeing the first version and I don't think it inspired me to comment. This one did.

    Well done.

I'm a big fan of fences and posts so this pic is automatically of interest. I like how it sprouts out of the ground here.

I like the top 2/3s of the picture the best, for the contrast is really nice. The bottom part of the post is dark, therefore blending into the background too much (that's always something to consider in black and white. There's no color to differentiate the objects...)

Btw, its good how you revisited the spot to correct an earlier disappointing pic. I do that on occasion but not often enough

Nice reshoot! I do like the cropping you've done in addition to the bw treatment.
I agree with that other post in the background it gives it some weight.
    Nice job.

I like your composition of this image.. The diagonals of the fence post compliment each other and make the image interesting.... The black and white conversion highlights the textures in the old wood and really makes the cracks etc stand out....

Exactly my thoughts Tuna and that's the main reason why I like this one better.

    Well done pez31 ;)

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am happier this go-around with both the composition and the conversion. BW is the way I see and is all I shot till experimenting with digital. The more comfortable I get with color the more control and success I have but I’m still drawn to BW. I guess it’s ingrained in me. (pun intended)

    Tuna,
Thanks for sharing your technique for bw conversions, it is very helpful.

    Regards

Its actually harder to revisit and still retain your original freshness. You were then full of suggestions and still came back with a good pic.
