    Rust & Rivets

found in a paddock near home. The early morning dew adds something to the image.

I am interested what others think of this composition etc??

    Hi Irish,

I do like this composition. However, I wished the DOF was a bit deeper: the top edges are blurry (but then this might be intentional).

I like it with a little less of the green - scrolling so that the lowest part of the metal is at the bottom of the frame looks about right to me.
Complimentary colors are at work here with the green bringing out the color of the metal and the contrasting yellow around the rivets is a nice addition. The water is nice both on the rust, saturating the color, and on the plants, giving some highlights. A lot to look at in this simple subject.
You're getting real good at this.

Thanks again Steph.....DOF and soft focus are something I am strugling with.....I've had my 300D since April this year and to date have played with anything and everything. I have set my mind to concentrate on controlling the DOF a little more and am saving my pocket money for a decent tripod (dropping hints to family etc for Christmas.. ) Having said that. I think I would want the DOF to focus on the edge and rivets and not on the whole image?

Thanks for your insight Chunk. I agree that the image looks better if the grass in the bottom corner is cropped. I guess it's a balance between a distraction and giving the image some place or context?????

    Hello Bobby,

This is just a piece of sheet metal in the middle of a field. There is not much purpose in taking a wider or more expansive shot. There is a lot of this type of material around some of the old buildings in the rural areas near my home. I guess this is the reminant of a piece of machinery or water tank or some such thing.

What I was really looking for is what I find under the metal. I will have to be most carefull as summer comes on as we have a lot of things whose bight can prove painfull at the least and fatal at the extreme. These little fellows (bearded dragons) are very young and only four to five inches long.
