I like the idea and the concept of the image, but feel that the blown areas on the hat havedestroyed the effectiveness of the photograph. Nice eye and idea. Give us some more.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I'm not sure the technical issues ruin it. It has a feel too it like a fashion shoot for Oshkosh. Keep shooting.

Thanks for the feedback Lava Lamp and Old Timer. Much appreciated.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might avoid those blown areas if I encounter a similar situation in future?

I think that the picture would be much better whithout the blown highlights, but that doesent ruin the image.
    Nice shot,
    Mark.

I like the angle. But I also wish there was more to see, esp of his/her face (but maybt that's the novelty of the shot, eh?)

Somethinig very Mexican about this photo ... looks like a big sombrero!

Thanks GB and Mark for your comments - much appreciated. GB, (re: "esp of his/her face") I'm not too sure how many little boys would appreciate being dressed up in a pink dress and hat! LOL

I too liked the angle of the shot and, even though it makes my little girl a bit anonymous, I like the sense of mystery.

I've attached another two pics below, to grant your wish of seeing more. Comments on the new pics are very welcome also.

N.B. The drool stain on the second new pic is something that I haven't yet had time to Photoshop out, but personally we don't mind it as she is at times, like almost all other young kids, a bit of a "drool machine".

Cute shots! I esp like the top one, although it's a little soft (kids always move). The DOF blur is excellant.

There are some blown out spots on her hat but overall it's a good shot. The last shot of here is adorable & I don't think you have to workout the little stain on her dress. She is a baby afterall & baby's are notoriously messy.
