    People

Not common that I do people. Here are a few past shots (from my current scanning romp)

Let me know what you think! The first one is shot with P3200 so the grain is fairly inherent - I didn't USM it for that reason. The print's a tad sharper.

    Thanks
    Rick

    Re: People

Good shots Rick - I like the lighting and composition in the first one, the over the shoulder pose seems right, its moody and ambiguous, and the grain adds to this. The eyes hold a lot of interest. I imagine that she would be pleased with this.

The second one is quirky, nicely composed and has great colour. I'd be tempted to experiment with a slightly tighter crop, let the frame finish on the left with the girl's hair, and then take a little off the right to keep the balance. that might make it look a little more 'portraity', not necessarily better by any means, but I think it might work. It could be my monitor but the girl seems a shade softer in focus than the guy, which I notice a bit as I find my eyes fall on her more than him (is that just because I 'm male?)

    Nice work

Great shots , Rick. Matt had some good suggestions , I feel. Is there a slight colorcast on that first shot? Seems like a very slight magenta cast?
What are you scanning with? and are you scanning mostly slides or have you also scanned negatives?

    Re: People

    Hey Matt

This is an excellent critique. I appreciate the time and thought.

The first is a family favorite, all my aunts have copies

The second one - you are right - I shot wide open with my 50mm at 1.8 and I focused on the guy - end result - the girl fell out of focus. I appreciate your thoughts - my eyes fall on her as well

    Thanks,
    Rick

    Gary -

Thanks for the responses as always!

I am scanning prints, believe it or not. All of my slides have to get printed before I can scan them. A frustrating process, but now I am accustomed to the waiting. I will someday acquire a film scanner. The color shot here was shot on print film, Gold 100 (defunct) I am using the scanner on my 3in1 Canon MP360. It does a pretty good job.

With regards to the color cast - it's funny, I usually give my black and whites a slight tint. In this case, I did not - it came as a result of the scanning. Do you find it distracting?

    Thanks,
    Rick

    Re: People

thanks for the info. . . not at all do I find the slight tint that I detect distracring. it is such a fine shot, that any tint or tone would work fine for me. I like your work, rick. Look forward to more of your scans!

Wow, Rick. That first shot is a standout. The exposures so nice, the girl is so beautiful, and the background is outstanding.

    Re: People

    Thanks again.

I've been scanning and posting my best "unseens" recently. When I run out of those, you'll certainly get disappointed with the crap I usually shoot

    Thanks again.
