    Old Red Barn

The wife and I took a little drive this past weekend, shot a couple of rolls of film. This barn sits about halfway between our house, and my stepdaughter's house. I've driven past it probably a hundred times, and it just caught my eye last week. Tell me what you think.

If it were me, I would make the old barn even older.
Wait for a cloudy day, when contrast is lower. Use B&W to give it that run down old barn look.

I have a B/W version of it, but I just did not like it. The original was much redder. I dialed down the red saturation about 25%, and dialed up the yellow & green just a tad to fix the grass... it looked sick in the original. I would have liked to have expanded the frame a bit, but 10 feet to my back is a 4 lane hiway. This was already shot with a wide angle, so there's not a lot more I could do.

If anyone likes, I'll post the B/W version as well.

    That's a thought... I may give it a try.

A good subject. i would agree with another comment about zooming out a bit as it is too tight, but understand your dilema. I feel this image is too dark, though. I don't think it is underexposed, but you might want to try upping the levels.

I like old barns too. It may be that desaturating the color ends up with it looking too dark. The dark more or less blank interior areas also detract. This can be lessened a bit by selecting those areas and boosting the darkest values in curves to bring out a hint of what's in there. I don't think you need real detail there, just not emptiness.

Like this it is just another old barn. Now why not get your wife to wander by and give the pic some point of interest ? An old tractor or some such in the frame could also do the trick.
