    Red Red Rose...

    Hello,

First post in a while... I don't think I've quite got the composition right on this one but I would be interested to hear what you guys think.

    Thanks

    Fran

ps - not sure if I got the photo upload right in this new format, but will soon see...

Wow, this looks good! Nice bright colors, well cropped and sharp where it is needed. Well done.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Frank,

I've been trying to improve my Macro photography since I was last here - hopefully it will show in my postings!

PS: Are the hot spots in the centre very bothersome?

Not to me. Probably they are against all photographic 'rules' but it works for me :-)

    hi there,

I like the fact that you captured the richness of the color of a red rose and I like the section (center) you captured , but I have to agree with you that the composition(maybe just the angle) or the way it was cropped is off for me...I'd also like to see the wilting petal in the lower left gone.

The whitish spots--- are are those hotspots or did the rose just have variations of color to it...?

I really like your tiger lily just as it is...even with the bit of fading off...I'm really interested to see more of your floral work ---it's nice that it's different than the standard flower shot.

    agree with Natalie

on all accounts: i'm not a big fan of the wilted leaf, and personally i think the white spots look overexposed. but the angle is different than others i've seen, and adds a nice feel to the shot overall. flowers are such a beautiful subject imo, so thanks for sharing your pics.

i'm going to post my comments for your other flower (lily?) separately.

Thanks Nat and Stew for your comments...

I'll crop the image another way at home tonight and repost to see what you think...

There was no variation in the colour of the rose - unfortuantely they are hot spots. It was a rose in my friends wedding bouquet and I only had a few seconds to shoot before it got swept down the aisle, but lighting is also my weak point so I will keep trying! I haven't yet attempted to 'fix' it in photoshop - any suggestions?

Thanks again for your comments - I love shooting flowers and succulents and will look forward to sharing them!

Red Red Rose - cropped and reposted

    Hi again,

Have taken on board your comments and cropped out the wilted petal. Any thoughts?
