Re: My first the attempt at,

Besides excess space in the shot, I think it would look much better taken at an angle instead of a broadside shot. The light on the top is blown out and I would get rid of the red light below the car and the steak of red, Jeff

    I agree with Grandpaw.

    ~The blown-out lights are distracting.
~Also, the truck is too centered.

    * When photographing a broad-side moving subject, it is usually best to leave more space in front than behind it. This will give the impression of moving into the photo, rather than out.

Re: My first the attempt at,

How would I fix the light problem?

And the truck was park not moving.
Next time I will try to take it more on an angle.

    Thank you both.

Re: My first the attempt at,

If your camera allows it, try bracketing the exposure. (one shot regular, and one or two more shots at a lower EV -*darker*).

It would be fantastic to be able to find more vehicles parked in the middle of an empty lot, seems that's never a luxury I stumble across Take some time, walk all the way around the vehicle and look for good angles, nice reflections and backgrounds that are not too mucked up (the one you have is great in that respect). When I find a car I want to get photos of, I usually take between 20 & 40 shots at various distances, angles, and settings and hope to get 3 or 4 I can work with, although the more time I spend out shooting, the higher the "keeper" ratio gets

The car is too centered too.
Centering your subject is an effective way of emphasizing the subject, but there are better ways of doing so.
Placing the subject just off center is far better.

One thing is not to use a UV filter at night. They can cause all kinds of flaring issues. Also catch the car when there is some light left outside so the top light isn't blowing out so much. I tripod and a higher F/stop will help too.
