I'm liking the mood this pic has.
You have a great contrast between the people and the building. The legibility of the "real estate" box is a distraction for me, though.
Also, the warm spots, or glows especially around the old folks and the foreground curb seem to jump out at me, making it look a little artificial. If it's on purpose, great. It's still a great shot.
(I feel weird offering a crit here as I consider your eye much more superior than mine)

The mood & focus are great here. I really like this shot. Only thing is there seems to be an oval like bright area around the couple. It's a tad bit too visible specially behind the man where one can almost see a line going down. It might be my monitor though. Nicely done

The only thing I would think might help is just crop out the road on the right. It might add a nice pic too.

This is a nice shot, and great framing here as always. Yes, the lighting looks like it is artificial( the same light that is hitting the couple and the street around them is also hitting the side of the building which it would not) however, it is still very effective and creates a sweet visual. I like the way the couple are dressed as well, you have found some great subjects. I always look forward to more from you.

You guys are usually one of my first sounding-boards for images I'm unsure about. In this case, I didn't want to say much in advance but as most of you have noticed, the image has been heavily dodged and burned in PS - just like we "old folk" used to do in the traditional darkroom to achieve this effect. I'm glad it is receiving a generally positive reaction.

Very nice picture, but i feel the doding and burning you have done givees a feeling that the two figures have been super imposed because everything else is so dark around them the lighitng no longer matches up.

Is this the idea you where aiming for that they dont fit in? what where your intentions with this image.

That said I really like your photographic style, glad to see another black and white photographer .

There is an eerieness and uneasyness about this that I love to see. The brightness (exaggerated?) around the old couple is perfect. It's as if they are getting away away from something they would have preferred not to have seen ( I see that in the mans profile especially). Picture would not have this impact had any more traffic or people been on the street.

Laurie, there have been many photographers since the mid-1800's that have done this type of selective dodging/burning to create a moody, somewhat un-realistic lighting effect in their images - more of a painterly effect ("light-painting"?). I saw this image as one that could use that sort of attempt.

I lke it, but even after the edit I think the dodge & burn is overdone.
Nice effect, don't get me wrong, but unsubtle.

I agree whith the others about the glow around the people. This manip should be a lot more subtile. Did you do it in the dark-room or with software? If software, what does it look if you left the people as is but lightened the whole image a tad?

The mood, the street, the people! I love the effects around the couple, and the angle in which this was shot.
My nitpick- the words visbility on the newsstands.
