Not a bad shot but it appears a little flat to me. I like the idea of you trying to incorporate both shadow and light, (Not sure if this is deliberate) but I'm not so sure it works for this shot.

I have to agree, the light just doesn't seem right. I would try adding a little flash(or reflected light) from the sides to bring out some depth.

    Re: Macro Flower

I started a Photo I class this past September, and I am having a great time w/ it. So, I am rather new to the art of photography, but I think the flower looks great - it is sooo sharp - the background is just a little distracting to me b/c there is a lot of detail in the rug? too - and I also like the back lighting - it is different. Good job!

Contrast seems a bit low, but I would not add more light, that would make it seem MORE flat, not less. You have an interesting backlight here, keep experimenting with stuff like that. Light and shadow is what makes an image, it's what creates dimension, and you have great lighting to achieve that here. Keep working towards stronger compositions, show us something we've never seen before.

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.

    Re: Macro Flower

Hi, Pretty good for your first macro but several things bother me about it. First, it's dead smack in the middle and I just don't think a flower on carpet is too appealing. Maybe you could find a more natural setting or something that stands out. The light and shadow thing is good but would be even better in a more interesting atmosphere.
