    Garibaldi Lake Pano...

    Hi everyone!

This is another pic from my hike to Garibaldi Lake. I took a low viewpoint and shot a series of frames with my 24 mm. I also toned down the sky with a split...

... after that, it was just a matter of stiching the whole thing together. A bit of color correction in PS, and voila!

Unfortunately, I do not expect this pic to be very sharp due to the low resolution of the post. But He! I got a 11*45 print out of the original and it looks pretty sharp.

As far as I am concerned, the main difficulty of doing Panoramic pics is to find a FG that is interesting enough. In this case, I settled for these big rocks and the two yellow-ish leaves. I shot frame after frame up to the point where I could 'close' the panoramic with the trees on the right.

    Does this work for you?

    Cheers,

    Steph.

    I love it!

It's just a tad dark, but otherwise I love it! Great composition!

i agree, it is just a tad to dark, and i find that leaf in the the foreground, the bright green one to the right to be distracting. But that said, i think you have a really nice shot (s). Thanks for posting!
    Sooo, do you like stuff?

    Well do ya?

No. No. No. The leafs are what make this photo interesting! Very nice shot -- kind of silver. Does that make sense?

    Thanks all for your feedback.

    Kelly and Jeez:
Indeed the post is a bit dark. I have to be careful when I convert to JPG:rolleyes. Somehow, I loose a bit of brightness and color saturation... Do you have any good trick as to how to convert a TIFF to JPG while respecting the original?

    Todd
YESSSS: !.. I didn't want to say anything about these green leaves on the left, but that's exactly why I took the picture in the first place. I wanted something catchy in the FG, but not too central. The green leaves attract the attention of the viewers on the boulder and FG, but do not distract the same viewers to have a look at the Lake, which is the main subject.

Having two subjects in a pic is always difficult, as they should not compete for attention. I hope I have achieved this goal with this shot.

Aarrgh...Pano can be a tricky business since you do not see the overall result when you take the frames. Makes you think!

BTW, the shot is a composite of 5 frames with more than 50% overlay...

I am thinking about having a Post-Your-Panoramic thread in ViewFinder. Probably already done...

    Cheers,

    Steph.

    Steph,

Panorama has been my thing the past few months too. Mostly in study however. I've yet to actualy take any interesting panoramics as they've all been in practice so far to understand the techniques, vision, and tools required. It's quite fun though. Thanks for sharing yours.....looks very successful to me.

May I weigh in on the leaf debate?

    Steph,

First of all, I think this is a beautiful pano, well done. Interesting sky, good exposure and colors, pleasing composition, good detail, even in a small web version. But I'm afraid I'm in the "the leaves are distracting" camp. Not that they ruin this image! But I do think they draw the eye to the bottom corner, and then there is nowhere for the eye to go, no flow back into the rest of the shot.

    Re: Garibaldi Lake Pano...

Great scene and good capture. I like it alot. Also seems just a bit dark, but I would not even bother to adjust it. The one issue i have is the big bush in the left frame. It feels like closing in what would be a great open space scene. I try cropping the image just past that bush to eliminate it, and suddenly the whole scene opens up more and does not even seem too dark any more. just my opinion. Great shot.

I am one that likes the leaf, and my thoughts on that?
Well, it is a pretty bright set of leaves! So, my eyes go to that first, then they trail leftwards (is that a word?) to the moss on the rocks, then I noticed the size of the rocks diminishing in the scene ( seems to be a theme of yours) and then I looked at the lake, and the mountains...
the trees on the right, I don't like them so much, and also think that the shot would benefit from a crop and slight clone of the mountain, so you are not just chopping the side of the mountain off as well.. I think the reason I don't like the trees on the left is because they are a) dark and b)cut off in the center

    Nice job on the panoramic!

Ha Ha! Looks like my leaves are spurring some dissent among you guys! So far, it is prettily much 50/50!

I have been doing some cropping (a bit on the right for Rachel, and a bit on the left for Gary). The result is also quite nice, although I prefer the original. Interestingly enough, while the cropped version is still mostly identical to the original, the overall feeling of the scene is changed quite a bit.

Thank you all for your feedback and for having a look. As fellow photographers (... I should say artists ....) I value your opinion.

    Cheers,

    Steph.
