    Found a little color...

I found a little color this weekend at a state park. I beat the rest of the family to the shower on Saturday morning so I could get outside and take advantage of the morning light. I found this little green creature making his way up the fire plug and waited for him to pose. Both shots were with the D70 and 105 f2.8 nikkor. Unfortunately I didn't have the tripod along so these were hand held and I didn't get as much depth as I would have liked.

    Interesting! Colorful! Constrasting!

The one with the Katydid, is really quite an interesting photograph!
    Good Eye "OT"!
The colors, the contrast are really good!
I think you have just the right amount of depth of field, you still get colors without the definition of the objects in the background.
There are a lot of great textures here too!
    I LIKE!

Amazing. The colours and textures are almost surreal.

Thanks Brian, the colors in the early morning light is what really drew me to both these images. If you look closely you will see y little friend making his way up the chain in the second photo to pose for the first posted image.

Terrific shot. that old paint is great and the veins in the katydid's wings really stand out.

I really like that on the first image the blurry background seems to mimic what you see in your main subject!

    Great Lighting as well

Oh, yeah. Nice, nice, nice. In additon to the vivid color, I love the contrasting textures revealed by your ultrasharp photo. You have good eyes to have noticed him/her.

Like the color contrast in the first shot - great job. The background is good too - the same colors are in the background, but there is still separation between the foreground and background because the colors are opposite of each other.

I like both of these OldTimer,
The colors are great and the texture and detail are all there. Nice contrast of the Katydid against the reds. This guy is sure vulnerable on that red hydrant, better get on a green leaf fast!

    Thanks to each...

Thanks to each of those who commented on these images the morning light and the the great colors made these images easy. And LL the Master of Macro here on PR your complement was very much appreciated. I have wanted a lens that would give me good closeup images for some time and the nikkor 105mm f2.8 has proven to be just what the doctor ordered. It was a good find a few months ago on the used shelf at Murphy's Camera. I spent a lot of years jumping through hops to get exceptable closeup images. Reversing lens adaptors, closeup filters and extention tubes all had their day but the 105mm is the real deal. Thanks again for the kind words.

    Ot...

That first one is a great catch and a great shot. Oh yeah, I see him crawling up in the second, but it was nice of him to pose for you in an attractive way. What a pop these have with only two colors basically, and opposites at that! Nice!

He was really very patient with me leting me move around from side to side untill I decided to move on. Much more cooperative than your average bee or butterfly.

Purchased him at the 5 and dime an placed him on a cardboard cutout of a fire hydrant that I use as many insurance agents do to fool the underwriting departments. I didn't think anyone would catch that Made in China stamped on his wing. Nice eye Elysian. I hope you don't get me thrown of the board for misrepresentation of nature. I do want it noted that no PS was used in this fake photo just plain old manuel manipulation of objects. Thanks Elysian for a great laugh this morning when I saw your post.

Wow, like finding out there's no Santa! First the guy at L.A. Times with the photo(s) from Iraq, now this! What's next!???

Great lens, too. A friend has it and let me take a few shots with it. Those couple of shots will not even come close to challenging the Master of Macro status!
