I love the black and white, yet I'm not sure about the shadow. It helps the contrast and tones, yet it is distracting from the eyes.

Very intense. I'd say crop it even tighter on the bottom to about where the point of the shadow from the bridge of his(?) nose lies. This would get rid of a sort of 'snipped off nose' feel. I'd also clone out that dark bulge coming in from the edge of the frame top right, you need what space you have there so a crop wouldn't work. It's good to have the negative space on the left to balance things out.

Thanks for the comments! I never noticed the bulge and once you mentioned it the "snipped" nose was distracting. I think I cropped as much as I could in this new version without throwing off the balance of the first.

Very nice. Isn't it amazing how so small a change can have a good effect? That eliminated the amputated nose feeling.
