    Re: Why the blue eyes.

looks like red eye except he/she is not looking directly at camera. no idea why they're blue.Try photgraphing cat in available light w/out flash, that should solve the problem. In bright light those eyes would have been thin slits. In this pic their dialated all the way.
    Hope I helped Mark.

It can be a indicator that the cat has glaucoma or cataracts (sp)

    Red eye vs other colors.

Dogs and cats have an additional membrane at the back of the retina which is what gives them better night-vision. The membrane can be pigmented and the color reflected can vary - it usually goes by coat color, eye color and age. I think darker animals normally reflect green/gold, lighter animals blue. If they have no pigment it will reflect red just like humans (blood vessels).

Re: Red eye vs other colors.

commonly referred to as STEEL EYE (same as red eye in humans as explained above)

you can always expect this in dark conditions(diolates pupils) when the flash is on the same axis as the camera lens. A ways to avoid this is to get the flash above or to the side of the camera if possible. OR try redeye reduction which emits a few pre-flashes to close down the pupils
