    Dear Scott,

Good grief Scott! I wish I had skies like that to look at, let alone photograph! A fantastic photo. The glow in the lower right really makes it a neat photo. Do you know what that huge light is that looks like a supernova? I would have guessed an airplane but, you said that your exposure was 30". I just wish the picture was bigger. Great shot. Maybe next time, without all the extraneous light.

Interesting colors here that you don't usually see in a night shot. I like the subtle yellow feeling to this picture. The few things that bother me is the graininess of the picture, especially at the top. I know it's hard to avoid in any long exposure shot, but, a tad distracting. This might also be from the compression of the jpeg. Also, as Dzerzhinski pointed out, the 'supernova' like star is also distracting. Is it possibly the moon?! Great shot though and beautiful sky,

I like the composition and framing and the light source whether the moon or something else creates even more interest for this. I am just not certain that i like the colors here. They are odd for a night scene and I'm wondering if you have an a yellow cast here that when taken away, would reveal a brighter more natural snight sky. just my take. Great subject

    Thanks for the comments.
Dzerzhinski..............I was on a Boy Scout camping trip with my son last weekend. We were in the middle of no where with no city lights to be seen. All of the adults in the group were talking about how clear it was that night. I think I stayed up longer than anyone, just totally amazed.
I'm not sure what the bright light was. We were just callin it a bright star??

Jared.................I wish I would have tried ISO 200 and even 100 to see if I could lose some of the noise. The only post editing here was to actually darken just a bit after auto levels.

Gary...............I'll play with the colors, but the 10 or 12 shots I took with different wb settings had this same color cast. I could see these swirly clouds blowing by while I was waiting on the shot??

    thanks,

    Scott

Scott - I like everything about the pic, except the bright light Just seems a little distracting to me, esp since there's no detail there to grab ahold of. Is it really a star? Seems waaaaay to be for that (?).

Btw, the starry sky will really look spectacular on moonless nights... To me it seems like you're standing on Mars or something.

Great shot - for me the bright light provides a center of interest that keeps drawing my attention back into the picture. It is neat to see how different people interpret a great photo in different ways. ;)

Hi Scott, nice night shot. The colors don’t seem to look like the ones that I take either. I like it though. The comp is good and seems to make me keep searching to see what all is going on in the photo. It’s really cool how that you captured so much in 30”. To many things to point here so I’ll just tell you in person next weekend.

Thanks to all for the feedback. Hopefully the next time I go back to this place it will, once again, be this clear.

Terrific shot Scott. I like the effect of the high cirrus clouds and the stars are just great.

I like the shot, it may have been netter without the bright lights, but I think it is a fine shot.
