    Cactus Flower

I've had a lot of fun with a Fuji FinePix 3800 before I moved up to the Nikon D70 - this was taken on a trip to New Mexico.

    Too small to see properly.

Can someone tell me the general size of photo's for posting? I've been doing it a bit on the hit and miss (mostly miss) process.

Those are some pretty vibrant colors in that flower.

Be careful of the crop (for this image, you lose parts of other flowers by having it too far to the right). Maybe back it out a little bit as well so a little more of the actual cactus is seen as well.

    Keep the images coming though!

Thanks I'll dig out the original and see about the croppiing on it -- it was the great colors that attracted me to them along the roadside.

    Hello Aaron

The guiderule for posting images here is 600 pixels wide. That purportedly lets it be scene on everyone's monitors.

I think this is a nice image though I would like to see a little more of the cactus tines in your first shot. I think it would give a little more identity to your flower to have the cactus be a stronger element. Other than that - and this is a personal preference - I like to see flowers shot from the top down, so I can see the pattern of the petals as well as take in the stamen (sp?) Like I say, that's just a preference though.

Thanks for your comments Rick I appreciate the information. The flower was just the otherside of a fence

    Re: Cactus Flower

Being a desert native, this photo really caught my eye. Wow! This was probably right after the rainy season when that smell of mud is so sweet. Anyways, I digress...

Personally, I really liked the small format of the first posted photo. It seems very personal that way... In fact, I did a whole B&W series in that fashion. I should stop criticizing (constructively) other peoples' work and post on my own, eh?

    Can't wait to see more!
