    Re: C&O Canal Georgetown

Hey MB, I really love pix of the C&O. Drove a mtn bike from Carter Rock to Harper's Ferry along that canal once, a lot of fun and very interesting scenery. Too bad I didn't really have time to stop and do much photography!

Looking at the shots, I think they're good and I like the black and white perspective. It's different to see that in the summertime when you're expecting to see greenery. The top shot is strong but I think it might be better if there was more space above the brick arch, for it seems a tad cramped now. It is also not as sharp as it could be -- did you use a tripod? It doesn't seem needed sometimes but your pix will be sharper (or much sharper) if you do, esp early in the morning when the light is low and the shutter speeds are long and apertures are wide.

The next two shots with small DOFs are good. The 2nd shot is well executed but the in-focus subject isn't all that interesting. The last shot is the strongest, but, his face is maybe a tad dark. The background is lighter and that makes it grab my attention -- I find myself looking at the bench more than Lincoln. A bit more lighting, perhaps with a reflector, might do it.

Like the tow path do you?

How about this shot just south of Great Falls?

BTW that is Justice William Douglas who was instrumental in getting the C&O turned into a National Park.

The second shot's the winner here. The texture of the wood comes through beautifuly.

Excellent B&W I like the lot but #2 is the winner for me purely because of the textures and composition.

#1 It dfepends on what is above the bridge whether it needs more space or not. Personally I like it as is.

#3 the weakest of the three for me - too much clutter in the background. If it was just the tree's branches and seats it would be a winner.

I like this shot too. It seems a lot sharper than the others. The color of the path is great. I think the next time I get out there I will take another long ride another the canal path.

PS - that guy still looks like Lincoln to me.

I agree the 2nd shot is strongest because of it's simplicity and noted textures to admire. I like the color photo you posted quite alot. . .too bad the sky has blown out somewhat.
An ND filter or even polarizer might have helped on that one. the lighting on the tow path and the colors as well as composition is very good.
