I agree the 2nd shot is strongest because of it's simplicity and noted textures to admire. I like the color photo you posted quite alot. . .too bad the sky has blown out somewhat.
An ND filter or even polarizer might have helped on that one. the lighting on the tow path and the colors as well as composition is very good.
