What do you all think? Any ideas for improvement?



Ok, as there has been some debate over whether or not to punch up this photo- here is a punched up version. Which do you all prefer?

Wonderful, peaceful shot. Slightly punched-up levels in the sky/water and larger image to view would be even nicer.

Is this an accurate representation of what you saw? You don't need to "punch" it up. A photographer can depend too much on digitally "punching" an image. Capture what you see, see the image mentally before you push the shutter release. Nice shot.

Thank you for your comment- yes, this shot is SOOC! I usually edit my photos, but am focusing more on creating my vision in camera- so I was really pleased with the outcome of this shot- but photography is very subjective.

It is a little flat on my monitor as well. We used to "punch up" photos in a darkroom using different developers/paper combinations along with choices of enlarger lenses, etc. To do so digitally isn't a crime. Of course it is the photographers discretion to post as he sees fit and this image is quite pleasing as is.

Have you heard of how much "punching up" was done to each and every Ansel Adams photo? Copious directions exist for every image. I wonder just how accurate his images depicted what he actually saw...

thank you for your comment! I normally prefer pictures with more color saturation, and normally edit my shots to get the colors I want. This week I have been challenging myself to stick with SOOC shots- sometimes this is easier than others. But I totally agree with you about about posting an image as you see fit- photography is a form of art and each artist has his own style.

I think the changes are a bit heavy-handed. Probably a more subtle change is needed so as to not lose the look of the moment while tweaking the presentation of your image.

I would keep the new sky, tone down the reflection and make both larger. - Terry

The original is definitely better here. The sky is too blown out and the lake reflection just looks off. The colors in the original work for me. Maybe moving the shoreline up or down in the shot so it isn't in the middle. Hard to say without being there.

Very nice picture. My only two suggestions would be to take the first one and add a little contrast to it. I think the second one is too much. Also it makes for a more interesting photo if the horizon line is not so centered and is placed in the top or bottom third of the picture. Keep up the good work, Jeff

I like the original better than the edited version

if foggy I see no reason to have very intense colors
