    B&W shot from Normandy France

I shot this in December whilst visiting the D Day memorial in France. The area was under fog then the sun came busting out right about 1 hour before it was time to set.

Same camera as usual...F100, 28-85, Kodak TMax 400.

I wanted to depict the feeling of cold and mystery.

    Please give me some feedback

    Regards

I love this shot - seen so many shots of the cemetries but this is unique - I love the way you captured the shadows of the crosses as if the spirits are reaching out to talk to you about what they went through.

I also like the way the trees frame the shot and how the sunny areas complement the trees.

My only ditraction is the large hay stack in the left part of the picture - minor issue

    Thanks Roger.
It was kind of neat, when we got there the sun just popped out and it was so unique.

I like this pic and how the different tonalities are well contrasted and harmonious. That makes me remember that I should try the TMax one day (on my to-do list!)! Fantastic light!

My only regret is that I really have to squint in order to see the crosses. I believe that using a longer lens would have allowed you to give more importance to the crosses and the very special light in the BG. As it is, the tree in the FG tends to dominate too much.

    Just my 2 cents!

    Cheers,

    Steph.

Thanks! And thanks fo rreminding my why I use T Max...I have been unhappy lately with Kodak and Tmax. I did have my 70-300 zoom and you are right, I could have compressed the background a little...thanks for the advice.

Chris, The lighting here is outstanding. The long shadows coming from the stones are incredible.. I like the tones of your b&w here and the contrast. My problem with this image is that I do not care for the large dark tree in the middle but would have rather you stood to the right some more to put it off to the side. Other than that, a remarkable shot.

    Chris

I just have to comment on the comments - DONT compress the background I can clearly see that the subject has a large number of crosses and that a lot of people died. I belive that if you compress it you'd lose the depth to the photo leading off to a misty spiritual place.

I do agree about the tree being right in the centre but I guess that this is what is partly giving you the opportunity to shoot into the sun as it masking the direct light and giving you the tonal qualities in this photo.

I guess I really like this shot even thought it seems to break some of the rules.

    Good Shooting

PS. wouldn't it be boring if we all liked the same things!

A handsome photograph. Funny, I get a feeling of hope and warmth.
