    Attempt at Model Photography

I spent this past Saturday walking around Golden gate Park taking shots of a friend of mine and here are a few of my favorites. These were shot on Fujicolor Press 400 film, using all natural light. These images are from the photo CD that I ordered with processing and have not been retouched. Any comments would be welcome, and thanks for looking!

I really like the first and last shot The second one I like also, but there is something about the way the pants look that make me not like it as much. But overall, I think the lighting and colors are great!

I like the second shot alot - I like the pose and I really like the color saturation you've achieved. The only thing that I don't like about these shots is that they're a bit on the side of high-contrast for my taste. I like to see portraiture or model photography be a little more soft on the eye, but again - that's a matter of taste and style not of anything you should correct.

Good work. Keep showing your work to us.

I agree with Andy in that these are too contrasty for my liking but they are good portraits through and through! I might try adding some reflected light into the shadows on her face (easily accomplished with anything from a t-shirt to your hand) and possibly using less saturated film. The first one is great - great angle - the second is very sexy - but what is it with the pants? They throw me off too, not sure why. The third might benefit from a horizontal crop and the last is also very nice!

    Good job.

I like these all for the most part but also feel they are a bit too contrasty. Alittle softening would be some help. The pants thing,. . . .I see something odd about it maybe the way they fit her and her stance, but does not bother me. What I find distracting is in the first and fourth pic the way the shadow of her nose is stretching across the face. But good shots they are.

    Re: Attempt at Model Photography

Thanks for all the nice comments, guys! I certainly agree that I would have liked to have been able to control the shadows more, but that's a hazard that comes with shooting in the woods. What I DO love about shooting in the woods is that when you do find that nice sunny spot, it acts as a natural spotlight on your subject and the rest of the surroundings tend to be very high-contrast (which yes, I do like). As far as the vivid colors go, the film I was using isn't all that saturated, but I was using a polarizing filter which I like to use to cut down on UV ugliness and just generally make colors "pop" more. Anyway, thanks for all the great suggestions! Hope I've got some improved shots to show here soon....

The colours are great and the friend is very well focussed.I would have tried to get the background somewhat blurry by playing around with the DOF and would have tried to soften the light on the face a bit more.Great shots however.
