    Re: Gas prices

If I drive like a maniac I can get my smart down to 40mpg, 55-50mpg around town typical (with passenger) and 70mpg on the 50 mile each way run to work with just me in the car.

    Date ..... mpg
    10/10/08 59.0
    06/09/08 54.6
    03/09/08 71.8
    02/09/08 72.1
    26/08/08 58.8
    20/08/08 61.7
    18/10/08 66.6
    14/08/08 68.8
    11/08/08 70.7
    07/08/08 65.2
    01/08/08 67.4
    29/07/08 65.4
    28/07/08 47.7

Yes, I suppose I might be a little anal about it - I even calculate miles per £

That's very impressive. Far better than any hybrid. And your smart will run circles around the hybrids. I definitely do not think hybrids are worth the extra premiums, and I'm seriously concerned about the unseen costs of hybrids (the production and disposal of the batteries, shipping costs, etc). I heard it takes an average of 5 years of driving a hybrid just to offset the extra cost to get a hybrid over a standard vehicle.

$2.99 tonight in NJ - first time I've seen it under $3 - this morning it was $3.29.

    Re: Gas prices

I find it funny that when we hear on the news that the price of oil has gone up, the price at the pump goes up the next day, if not the same day. But when the price of oil goes down, the price at the pump seems to take a long time to come back down. It was $3.32 or something like that here yesterday.

So the news this morning was that gas prices fell 35 cents in the past month. The national average is now $3.24.

    Re: Gas prices

Here in good ol Detroit Michigan, Home of the auto, gas is around $2.95 / gal. Our gas seems to be on the higher side as "they" know we have no recourse. No public transportation: no buses, subways, trains ect. I think they designed the city and surrounding area like that. That way we have to rely on what we make (or used to make), cars.

Oh well, at least gas is coming down some....

    Re: Gas prices

I dont worry about it. Bike in the summer, truck winter.

But the high gas prices DO bring out some rather smug people at the pumps. On idiot mouthed off to me when I put $40 in the tank. "Well you should had bought a prius like mine and you wont have to put $40 in it". I'm just like WTF? I never asked him anything. But oh well. Me being a pretty good smartass to people like that just said "Well I get 400hp and 90 mpg, what does your roller skate get?". He had such a bewildered look as I hung the nozzle up and walked into the store. God I hate people like that.

    Re: Gas prices

My jeep gets pretty unimpressive gas mileage, as I've said before...but I paid 2.89 today, which is less than I've paid since I bought it two years ago. Gas still sets me back 3.29 by my house though, which evens it all out.

    Re: Gas prices

With the price of gas dropping now, are your driving habits changing? Mine have a little bit. For one, I have stopped riding my motorcycle, but that's because of the weather, not the price of gas. That means I'm driving my truck more. I did find myself making a couple short road trips this past week that I wouldn't have if gas was still around $4.00/gal. I'm hoping my road trips this weekend are the exception, not the rule. I'm going to try to keep my driving very limited.

Happy to see the decline in the price of gas. It is now .84 cents a litre, have no idea what that is in gallon.

$1.95 gal today, 11/10/2008 in Illinois. Springfield, Illinois has now dropped to $1.84-1.89 a gallon. Alas, I had to purchase gas to get there!

    Way down but..

I paid $6.40 per gallon last weekend (at my local hypermarket near Paris). That's down a lot.

Unfortunately - the death toll on the roads has jumped up by 20%. It was so nice out on the freeways this summer - everyone was driving within the legal limit (85mph). The price of gas seemed to have calmed people down.

OMG Franglais, that's crazy - the gas prices and the speed limit. At those speeds, gas mileage has to stink, also.

We dropped to $1.89 on Sunday but jumped up to $1.96 today. As long as it can stay below $2.50, I'm not going to fret. It also helps that I sold my Ford Explorer and bought a Saturn Vue SUV. Instead of 22 mpg highway, I get 30 mpg. Also, since I do sell a few photos, every time I return home with a good photo, I let the government pay for some of my gas.

Hold on. I just realised that I was using Imperial gallons in my conversion and not US gallons. That brings the gas price down to only $5.50 per gallon.

My average gas consumption - calculated by the car itself, which is pretty accurate - is 36 miles/gallon. That's pretty good considering that my usage, either:

    1. Paris area. I hate traffic jams
    2. Freeway at slightly less than the legal limit of 85mph

For my next car I want a 20% reduction in gas consumption. The manufacturers have another three years to get it sorted out..

Today in my hometown, the government has decreased the gas price for the second time to RM2.00 per liter. It was increased 3 month ago up to RM 2.70 per liter. But now, we really happy to hear that it was decreased to 2.00

$1.96 when I went to work last night. But it was cold, so I didn't fill up. hoping it hasn't gone up.

I was going to spend my afternoon driving in circles, you know, doing my part to help the economy.

$1.69 here. Its nice, but a bit disturbing at the same time. I have heard some speculate that it's an attempt on the oil/gas companies to squelch the alternative energy momentum. Others implicate a weakening global economy driving down the demand which causes the price to go down. I dunno!

$1.79 here. I don't understand how gas prices work anyway, so I'm just going to be thrilled that we can now afford to eat AND drive, and continue to do my part to conserve.

That Escalade is looking pretty sweet tho....
